The Mommies Reviews

October 9 is National Bring Your Teddy Bear to Work/School Day #BringYourTeddyBearToWorkAndSchoolDay . I don’t know about you but I don’t have a actual Teddy Bear although I do have a lot of Stuffed Animals that mean the world to me.

I thought I would show you were I keep them and also a picture of one of the Stuffed Animals that means the most to me. It’s a Monkey named Monkey Sue after Suzzne. I bought her the Monkey from Walmart and mailed it to her when she was visiting my parents in Oklahoma.

The night she was killed I crawled into her bed with Monkey Sue and cried myself to sleep. On top of Monkey Sue’s head you can feel a rough spot that is my tears. I wouldn’t take all the money in the world for Monkey Sue because she has gotten me through so much in my life. Having Monkey Sue is like having a piece of Suzzane with me. Come and share your Teddy Bear or your favorite stuffed animal with me.

Did you know the Teddy Bear was named after the 26th President of the United States, Theodore Roosevelt. In November of 1902, Roosevelt, who was a passionate hunter, went on a hunting trip in Mississippi.

Amongst those who accompanied him were other hunters, reporters, a hunting guide, and a few hunting dogs. The other people noticed they were on the trail of a black Bear. A few days came by and Roosevelt went back to the Campsite while the others kept searching for the Bear.

They found the Bear and called for Roosevelt to come. Seeing the Bear tied to a tree and cornered by the Dogs, Roosevelt refused to shoot the Bear. However, to put the Bear out of its misery and injury, he found a less gruesome way for the Bear to die.

The event and incident paved the way for several caricatures and cartoons to come about.
Including a cartoon titled “Drawing the Line in Mississippi,” which showed Roosevelt refusing to shoot the Bear, which was created and drawn by Clifford Berryman.

This Cartoon appeared in the “Washington Post” and made even more noise. Morris and Rose Michtom, Candy Shop Owners, were inspired by the Cartoon to make the first Teddy Bear, which was originally called ‘Teddy’s Bear.’

They asked the permission of Roosevelt himself to allow the name for mass production. They founded the toy company, Ideal Toy Company, where they produced commercial Teddy Bears for everyone to buy. While this was happening, Richard Steiff created a stuffed Teddy Bear, which also became very popular.
