November 7 National Men Make Dinner Day #MenMakeDinnerDay

The Mommies Reviews

Life is funny I was born in the 60s when women stayed home and became a #housewife but I don’t remember a time my dad didn’t cook for us. When I was in elementary school my dad worked for a factory and we would fend for ourselves a lot of times because my mom didn’t want to cook.

My dad opened his own company and when he did my mom worked in the office and my dad did all the Service Calls for the typewriter shop they owned. My dad would come home and make dinner and since I was the oldest I had to keep the house clean and do laundry. My parents would help some but not a lot.

When David and I first got married we both was working full time and I would put dinner on before leaving for work. Then I had Charlie and always made sure the house was clean and dinner cooked when David came home.

Then I began the blog and was #Homeschooling Charlie full time and trying to cook and keep the house clean which became to much for me as Charlie had more to do in school and my blog got busier. David picked up cleaning the house and makes dinner for everyone.

Although at times I will make dinner or Charlie will cook especially when he was #Homeschooling and was taking a #Cooking Class. Charlie and I will clean the house at times when were not working on my website. Or if its a #Holiday or #Birthday I always make the meals but both David and Charlie help if there home. Does the men in your home cook and clean?

I have a question for you. Did you know the first Thursday in November which happens to be November 7th this year is a #Holida National Men Make Dinner Day? Iif you identify as a man then throw on an apron, sharpen those knife skills, and create incredible evening meals for yourself, your friends, or your family!

Did you know despite gender roles becoming less rigid in America, there are still many men who are not taught to cook and they don’t take the initiative or confidence to enter to the kitchen and create a meal for themselves or a loved one. National Men Make Dinner Day is all about giving men the strength to get into the kitchen to whip up a meal.

here is fun fact for you. Humans started cooking, roughly, about 500,000 years ago regardless of whether they were man, women, or children, we’ve been cooking our food for quite some time now and many scholars actually believe this practice could go back to even 1 million years ago.

Just because it’s National Men Make Dinner Day doesn’t mean you have to go all out for a five course Steak dinner. A Salad can perfectly feed a family of four for dinner. Additionally, the idea that any single gender was responsible for creating the meals is a fairly recent development that’s quickly become antiquated in modern society. Five-hundred thousand years ago it didn’t matter who made dinner as long as someone did.

Now, it’s time for any and all men to step their game up and get back to their prehistoric roots by sharpening their cooking skills as much as their often left unused Chef knives. Remember this #Holiday is dedicated to men of all ages and includes men of all ages including children and teens.

National Men Make Dinner Day Activities

  1. If you’re a man who doesn’t think of himself as a cook, today is a great day to get started. Look up a favorite recipe, break open a cookbook, or call your mom to ask her what you should cook for your friends and family. If your already a seasoned cook use National Men Make Dinner Day as an opportunity to use your skills instead of ordering takeout.
  2. Remember we don’t believe in the battle of the sexes, but for National Men Make Dinner Day, we are in favor of women kicking up their feet. If you’re your household’s regular cook, take the opportunity to encourage any men in the house to cook dinner for you. No men around? Takeout is a great option. Pick a restaurant with a man as the Chef.
  3. For parents, today is a great opportunity to start teaching your children, especially your sons, to help cook. Dads, get your sons chopping, mixing, and washing. Moms, you’re doing takeout, so you can start tomorrow.

Why We Love National Men Make Dinner Day

National Men Make Dinner Day is weeks before Thanksgiving, which comes at the perfect time to remind many men that a woman’s place isn’t necessarily in the kitchen but a man’s place certainly can be! Many families have a tradition of men watching football while women cook, but National Men Make Dinner Day reminds all of us that gender shouldn’t dictate who cooks!

Cooking a meal for yourself or for others is deeply satisfying and feels great. Lots of people, especially men, aren’t encouraged to learn how to cook, and that can make them feel useless in the kitchen. National Men Make Dinner Day is all about putting aside that stigma, and encouraging everyone to get in the kitchen.

Regardless of your culinary skills, preparing a meal for your friends or family is a real kindness and remember you don’t have to go gourmet you can keep it simple with Pasta and a canned Sauce, your loved ones will be thankful you cooked and gave them a break.

Thank you,

Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
