My family wanted to share a new children’s book called Nose to Nose by Thyra Heder (Author) I received in exchange for a spot in our Christmas Gift Guide and a review. I couldn’t wait to share Nose to Nose with David because on the front of the book is two dogs and one of them is a Basset Hound David’s all time favorite dog. Did you know at one time we had a Basset Hound named Samanth which we had to give away when I was pregnant because she kept tripping because I couldn’t see her when walking.
Since I can’t afford a Basset Hound for David I was able to give him Nose to Nose and David was so happy. He has been sharing the book with everyone he knows. Charlie loved finding out the dogs name is Toby because that was my dogs name when I was a child and there is also Pancakes Charlie’s favorite foods.
Toby was the new dog on the block and he was having trouble making friends. Then he finds a ball at the park only the ball belongs to Pancake. But mistakes happen and people label Toby a bad dog and its even harder to make friends.
Toby wrote a large message to Pancake telling him he was sorry for taking his ball. Then in the morning Toby sees something has gone terribly wrong and no, I’m not going to tell you what it was because you need to check out Nose to Nose for yourself and share the book with dog lovers, children and teachers. here is a FYI for you this is a children’s book but adults will love both the story and illustrations just as much as children do.
About the book:
From the critically acclaimed author-illustrator of How Do You Dance?, Thyra Heder’s Nose to Nose is an insightful and hilarious picture book about trying to make new friends as the new dog in town and the courage it takes to face a problem “nose to nose”
Toby is the new dog on the block, and he can’t wait to meet his neighbors. But his attempts to make friends go largely un-sniffed by his busy neighborhood, and Toby finds being new isn’t so easy. At least he finds a nice, smelly ball at the park. There’s just one problem: The ball actually belongs to another pup, Pancake, who desperately wants it back.
Toby tries his best to explain his mistake, but when his messages get misunderstood, the neighborhood rumors fly: Toby is a bad dog! Beware! Toby doesn’t know if he’ll ever make a friend, but hopefully by being brave and taking a chance, he can make things right.
This pooch-filled story by critically acclaimed author Thyra Heder playfully unveils the currents of communication happening all around us and champions the courage it takes to confront a problem “nose to nose.”

She started her career as a storyboard artist for film and TV and still freelance illustrates for a variety of clients. She lives and works in Brooklyn, NY, and spends a lot of time drawing strangers. Her books are created using pencil, ink and watercolor.
