When we took Charlie to the Counselor after he tried to kill himself, they let me know with Charlie being Dyslexic and also having ADD that Board Games and Puzzles would help Charlie learn to focus and to sit still for more extended periods of time. Once we got home I mentioned this to David and also Granny Sherry.
That afternoon Sherry went to Walmart, and while there she picked up a couple of games the Counselor mentioned would be good for Charlie. As time went on, I had thought about picking up more Board Games or Puzzles for Charlie. I wasn’t sure if he would take the time to use these items. So I didn’t purchase anything.
Then the other day we ran up to Dollar General to pick up some cleaning supplies when Charlie asked if he could look at the toys. I said that was fine and I went on to look at the workbooks and Craft supplies we use in Charlie’s classroom. Charlie walked up with this new Paw Patrol puzzle and asked me if he could have it.
At first, I was going to say no, as it was only 24 pieces and I knew it wouldn’t last long. Then I took a closer look at the Puzzle and that it came in a tin case and I let Charlie know he could purchase the puzzle. For a couple of reasons and I will share them with you below.
- Being only 24 pieces meant it wouldn’t take a lot of time to put together but it would keep Charlie focused for a bit, and we could pick up a bigger puzzle the next week as it would allow Charlie to build up the time he spends sitting down.
- Once Charlie finished the puzzle we could frame it to give to my Nephew for Christmas to hang in his room as he loves Paw Patrol. Or Charlie could use it to decorate his home as he also enjoys the show.
- There is a Bulldozer in the picture which would go perfectly with our lessons on machines and David could share facts with David on this machine as he used to drive one for work.
- This puzzle comes in a tin case which once David has finished putting the puzzle in it he could use for keepsakes or change. Or he could put his small wrestlers in it to take with us when we are out and about.
For our family, there were plenty of ways to use this new puzzle. Including hosting a Puzzle Night instead of a Game Night, and everyone could pick on a different puzzle to work on and once I mentioned this to Charlie and David, they loved the ideal and can’t wait to run out and pick up more puzzles, so we have enough for everyone to have one.oo
The beautiful part is the Dollar Store has such a wide variety of puzzles for only a $1 that we will not have to spend a fortune creating new memories with our family. Because the other day when we stopped by I also saw several new games I want to pick up along with Art Supplies and coloring books so we can host an Art Night with the kids.
Thank you,
Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
