I thought I would share a new children’s book My Hair Is Like The Sun Board Book from Chronicle Kids by St. Claire Detrick-Jones and Illustrated by Tabitha Brown I received in exchange for this review.
My Hair Is Like The Sun brought me PEACE this morning as I’d been missing my niece Lily and trying to come to terms of not being invited to her Birthday party. When I looked through the books I had sitting on my desk and found My Hair Is Like The Sun which I will be sharing with my niece Alex for her daughter’s Dixies, Alexandra and Payton as they get ready to go back to school in the next week.
Before you ask yes, I am white, but Alex’s children are mixed which makes them more special giving them different hair from the rest of our family. Payton struggles with this a lot of the time. I believe having this book and seeing other children with her hair will make her come to terms with her nationality and teach her to take care of her hair which she refuses to do.
I love how the Author compares the children’s hair to different things like the Ocean which we can see and feel. Charlie and I had fun discussing the different hair styles and having Charlie draw them in his Homeschool Art Class. Now we plan on taking a Field Trip to a Beauty College to see what types of products someone with black hair should use to create a basket to leave at my son’s school for someone that needs it.
