My First Songs Written By Tomie dePaola

Charlie and I picked up a copy of My First Written Songs written by Tomie DePaola the other day to use for our music class. Because it had several songs Charlie had learned as a child and we were able to put on a Music show for his Granny Sherry and Payton. Then Charlie worked on teaching Payton the songs, and they acted them out for Charlies Drama class.
I liked seeing how easy this book was for Charlie to read on his own. As we practiced the songs, Charlie and I put together a band using items we found in our home. Then we decided to do some Artwork by illustrating the songs Charlie found in the book. For math, I had Charlie time how long it took him to sing each song.
My First Songs Written By Tomie DePaola

Bestselling author/illustrator Tomie dePaola feels like singing! And this book includes Ten well-known songs, like? It’s Raining; It’s Pouring? And Three Blind Mice,? Will have you singing, too. The accessible trim, appliqué cover, and beautiful illustrations by Tomie dePaola make this collection of songs a great addition to any children’s library.

Tomie dePaola was born in Meriden, Connecticut, in 1934 to a family of Irish and Italian background. By the time he could hold a pencil, he knew what his life’s work would be. His determination to create books for children led to a BFA from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York, and an MFA from the California College of Arts & Crafts in Oakland, California.
It drove him through the years of teaching, designing greeting cards and stage sets, and painting church murals until 1965, when he illustrated his first children’s book, Sound, by Lisa Miller for Coward-McCann. Eventually, freed of other obligations, he plunged full time into both writing and illustrating children’s books.
