#MusicMovesMe #Blogboost Johnny Cash A Boy Named Sue
Being born in 1964 I wasn’t sure which song to share this morning as they was highlighting 1969. Since Ramblin With AM chose to hightlight Elvis Presley and Suspicious Minds one of my favorite songs by Elvis I thought I would mention In The Ghetto but she also share it. So I decided to search for a song online.
As soon as I found out Johnny Cash had written A Boy Named Sue in 1969 I knew this would be the song I wanted to highlight. Johnny Cash the Man in Black was one of my parents favorite singers. My parents never wanted to attend a concert until June Carter Cash and Johnny Cash did a concert at Billy Bob’s here in Fort Worth, Texas. My dad took my mom to this concert and both of them never stopped talking about seeing the show.

Fast forward my daughter is born and we share our love of Country Music with her and she becomes obsessed with Johnny Cash and A Boy Named Sue. I wish I had been able to take her to one of Johnny’s concerts before she passed away. Although that didn’t happen. Nor was I able to see Johnny Cash before he passed away.
Fast forward and Charlie is now 11 and just like his sister Suzzane Charlie is obsessed with Johnny Cash and A Boy Named Sue and One Piece At A Time. I love how Charlie’s love of music has brought our family closer together. I can’t wait until I am able to find Charlie and David a T Shirt and the Vinyl Record of A Boy Named Sue.
I would like to invite you to join us next week in #MusicMovesMe because if your like me you can’t wait to see which era they highlight. Now excuse me as I go visit the other Bloggers and see which songs they have chosen to share with us.
Thank you,
Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
We love Johnny Cash and saw him at Carnegie Hall in NYC.
I grew up liking a lot of Johnny Cash (more some of the songs that crossed over into rock rotations, such as A Boy Named Sue) – as I grow older I’ve discovered some other of his music. I could also wish I could have heard him perform in person. By the way, I’m honored that you’ve joined the Music Moves Me gang – I hope you will come share music again with us.
Glenda,
Welcome to the 4M dance floor! It’s great to have you join the fun on the King of Rock n Roll’s birthday. I’m very familiar with Johnny Cash ‘A Boy Named Sue’ but I don’t think I’ve ever followed the lyrics until now. It’s a lot funnier than I remember. Furtastic mewsic choice! Thanks for playing along with us. Have a boogietastic week!
Hugs from your newest follower,
Cathy
I’ve loved this song always. I need to let me kids listen to it. I let them listen to oldies and not these new things.
Thanks for the dance.
Have a great week!
My dad was a huge Johnny Cash fan – he’d sing (off key) to every song he could! 🙂 Thanks for the memories – and the dance! 🙂
