Good morning, how are you? I wanted to wish all the mom’s and wanna be moms and dad’s that play the role of Mother and Father a happy Mother’s Day today. Is your family celebrating Mother’s Day? David is supposed to work a double today. As far as I know his mom isn’t doing anything special today but I will have Charlie call and wish her and also my sister Happy Mother’s Day.
With my mom in Heaven and David working today I am cooking my own Mother’s Day dinner. I picked out Charlie’s favorite meal to serve and for desert Chocolate Cakes. If my sister’s family goes to her daughter in law’s mom she will come here to eat. As I finish up this article and head out to walk before it starts to rain which it has been sprinkling off and on.
I plan on cleaning the downstairs, then we wouldn’t have to clean it tomorrow and all Charlie will need to do is his room and restroom before school tomorrow. If I can my sister and I may go, see Book Club tomorrow. Unless David is off tomorrow then Debbie and I will g with Charlie and David to Pancho’s to celebrate Mother’s Day. Would you like to come with us?
In the meantime, here is about Mother’s Day. Mother’s Day is a holiday celebrated on the second Sunday of May, honoring the mother of the celebrant. Mother’s Day is a traditional day for honoring one’s own mother, as well as other mothers, including mothers-in-law, grandmothers, and great-grandmothers.
The modern Mother’s Day holiday was created by Anna Jarvis in the early 20th Century. Jarvis’s mother, Ann Reeves Jarvis, was a Peace activist who had organized “Mother’s Day Work Clubs” to address public health issues. After her mother’s death in 1905, Jarvis began a campaign to make Mother’s Day a recognized holiday in the United States.
In 1908, Jarvis organized the first official Mother’s Day celebration at a Methodist Church in Grafton, West Virginia. The following year, President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed Mother’s Day a national holiday.
Mother’s Day is now celebrated in many Countries around the world. In the United States, Mother’s Day is a major commercial holiday, with billions of dollars spent on flowers, cards, gifts, and other items. However, Mother’s Day is also a time for families to come together and celebrate the mothers in their lives.
Here are some of the traditions associated with Mother’s Day:
- Giving flowers, cards, and gifts
- Spending time with the mother or mother figure in your life
- Cooking a special meal
- Writing a poem or letter
- Saying “I love you”
No matter how you celebrate Mother’s Day, it is a day to show your appreciation for the mothers in your life.
Thank you,
Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
