Highly Anticipated Sophomore Album Features 12 Originals

“Continuing to hone their rootsy Great American Songbook style of original tunes, the group brings it all home on second album, Jackpot!” –Austin Chronicle

“These are originals that have all the depth and dynamite of the best American songbook staples…Pick the winner” –Americana Highways

Austin, TX – May 17, 2024 – Monte Warden and the Dangerous Few ’s highly anticipated sophomore album, Jackpot!, is out today via Break a Leg Records.

From the album’s opening tango, “Silhouette,” to the “if Dean Martin had been from Lubbock” title track to the Alamo-inspired romantic siege of “It Was But A Small Affair,” to the closing spiritual “Steadfast Love,” the album’s 12 songs pay homage to the Great American Songbook but are all original compositions. The set also includes Warden’s first-ever recording of “Desperately,” a song he co-wrote that was a Top 10 hit for George Strait in 2004, earning him the prestigious BMI Million-Air Award that recognizes songwriters whose compositions have attained the uncommon milestone of surpassing one million broadcast radio plays.

Listen to the album’s first single, “Waxahachie Hoochie Coo,” the “instant classic” (Americana Highways), “groovy, good-time, R&B track with horns, topped by a country vocal,” (Music Row).

Leading up to street date, Warden stopped by RFD-TV’s Market Day Music for a performance and interview, and talked with several podcasts, including How did I Get Here? With Johnny GoudieTHNX A Feelgood Podcast, and a two-part interview with Tales From the Broken Spoke

Recorded live at the legendary Arlyn Studios in Austin, TX, in just two days, the album was co-produced by Tim Palmer (Pearl Jam, Robert Plant, David Bowie), Brandi Warden, Mas Palermo, and Erik Telford. With Warden’s “classic crooner pop” vocals (Austin American Statesman) and his 1963 Martin guitar, he was joined in the studio by Nick Litterski (piano, B3, accordion), Erik Telford (trumpet, flugelhorn), Brent Wilson (upright bass, Fender bass), and Mas Palermo (drums, percussion).

Before recording their self-titled debut album in 2020, the Monte Warden and the Dangerous Few played over 200 live shows and are now known for electrifying performances at their monthly residency at Parker Jazz Club now in its third year of sold-out shows.

A proud seventh-generation Texan and Austinite, Warden is a rare two-time member of the Texas Music Hall of Fame, both as a solo artist and as a member of The Wagoneers. He is also a multi-million selling hit songwriter with singles on five different Billboard charts and cuts by artists including George Strait, Josh Turner, George Jones, Kelly Willis, Patti Loveless, Travis Tritt, among others.

A beloved fixture on the Austin music scene since he was 14 when he fronted the rockabilly trio Whoa, Trigger! first playing at local honky-tonks, then internationally as the founder and leader of ‘80s country band The Wagoneers, who scored a major-label deal with A&M Records after performing at the first SXSW and whom veteran journalist Chet Flippo dubbed “The Greatest Honky-Tonk Band that ever was.” Following his self-titled1994 debut, which NME named one of the 100 Best U.S. albums of the 20th Century, Warden released solo albums with various labels.

In 2016, he formed the Dangerous Few as an avenue to explore the mid-century crooner-styled pop-jazz like songs in the Great American Songbook. From 2020-2023, Warden hosted the hugely successful livestream, The Monte Warden Feel Good Hour, for 156 consecutive weeks.
