May 4 National Bombshells’ Day #BombshellsDay

The Mommies Reviews

I thought I would share a fun fat about me that you may not know. I love Rosie the Riveter and have her decorating my home. As well as Pin-up Girls which my son like to refer to as #Hoochiemama’s lol. I couldn’t wait to let David and Charlie know May 4 is National Bombshells’ Day #BombshellsDay and I couldn’t wait to research the holiday to find out what all it entails and I thought you might want to know as well.

National Bombshell Day, falling on the first Saturday in May which is May 4 this year, calls for women and their female friends to be celebrated. Due to an ever-growing technological world and the increased exposure levels, everyone has a set of expectations dumped onto them in terms of how they should look, behave, dress up, etc.

Females, especially, continue to have immense societal/patriarchal preconceptions pushed onto them. A basic example is makeup. Women receive comments if they wear too much makeup, too little makeup, or no makeup at all — either way, there’s no winning. Thus, National Bombshells’ Day was created to highlight the importance of spreading self-love and love among women.

National Bombshell Day was celebrated by Victoria’s Secret for the first time in 2015. Now National Bombshell Day is celebrated every year on the first Saturday of May, the brand behind National Bombshell Day is a world-famous lingerie company with several branches established nationally and internationally called Victoria’s Secret.

Victoria’s Secret, which is named after the Victorian era’s prim and proper attributes, was launched in 1977 by Roy and Gaye Raymond. After finding rather dull lingerie options, Roy Raymond, who would often feel a sense of shame buying lingerie for his wife due to the judgmental stares of shopkeepers, wanted to create a space that offered not only great undergarment options but also celebrated women in all their glory.

While Victoria’s Secret was sold to Leslie Wexner in 1982, Victoria Secret’s kept true to its brand goals by directing the majority of its attention to female consumers. From selling catalogs to broadcasting ramp walks on the internet and national television, Victoria’s Secret quickly became a trailblazer in the industry. Over the years, it has faced much backlash and controversies relating to sexism and racism, among other things.

However, Victoria Secret’s has maintained its brand image of empowering women and celebrating them by creating National Bombshells’ Day. On National Bombshell Day, the company offers many deals and special edition products and also calls on all women to celebrate themselves and the females in their lives for who they are. Patriarchal pressures have made many women enemies of each other due to internalized misogyny. Women’s unity and power will help break barriers as the strongest allies women have are each other and themselves.

NATIONAL BOMBSHELL DAY ACTIVITIES

  1. Give yourself some self-love and appreciate all that you are. Look how far you have come in life and how much potential you still have. Take a breather for a while and pamper yourself and celebrate the wonderful human being that you are.
  2. Celebrate the women around you from having their period and experiencing pregnancy to the unfair set of expectations laid on them, women have to go through a ton of things in their lives. Plan an activity or two to show your appreciation for them.
  3. On National Bombshells’ Day, take a vow to always take a stand for the women in your life and the best way to celebrate National Bombshell Day is to be there for them when they need it and uplift them by celebrating them as a person.

FACTS ABOUT FEMINISM

WHY PEOPLE LOVE NATIONAL BOMBSHELL DAY

  1. National Bombshell Day is celebration of women because they go through a lot of hardships in the form of prejudice and oppression. Yet, women often emerge as the strongest leaders out there due to their resilience and brilliance. It is for this very reason that women deserve to be celebrated and given an equal platform on the world stage.
  2. National Bombshell Day is a celebration of female unity and when females unite they can achieve great things. However, the opposite is also true because when females go up against each other, they can become each other’s worst enemies. Female unity, therefore, should be promoted and celebrated to make the world a better place for generations to come.
  3. National Bombshell Day is a celebration of positivity nowadays, life has a way of constantly highlighting the negativity around us. This could lead to everything appearing bleak and dark. Yet, with the right dose of positivity, be it through appreciating each other for who we are or simply complimenting someone, we can begin to highlight positivity more.
