I thought I would ask if you knew March 24th is National Chocolate Covered Raisin Day #ChocolateCoveredRaisinDay? I don’t know about you but I will pass on Chocolate Covered Raisins. I think Charlie would as well but who knows with that child. Not David he likes Chocolate Covered Raisins. How about you?

People couldn’t be more excited to begin today’s celebration of National Chocolate Covered Raisin Day! National Chocolate Covered Raisin Day happens year on March 24t. Chocolate Covered Rasins are a delicious little morsel that hits center stage.

As one of America’s favorite Candies it is no stranger to the spotlight. Both Chocolate and Raisins or as you know (dried Grapes) have existed for Centuries but it is the combination of the two that sparks festivity. Chocolate covered Raisins are a “vintage” Candy.

Did you know Raisinets, are the most widely known name for Chocolate Covered Raisins? They were born in 1927 at the Blumenthal Brothers Chocolate Company in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. They and other Candies produced by the Blumenthal Brothers grew in popularity as a snack of choice in movie theaters across America during this time.

 Nestle Corporation acquired the Raisinets, Goobers and SnoCaps brands in 1984 but have since sold those and other brands to Ferraro Group where Raisinets are still made in the USA under the Ferrara Candy Group. Of course, Raisinets is not the only brand of Chocolate covered Raisins in the world. Many other labels sell Chocolate covered Raisins with their own twists and flavors.

 Social Media encourages creativity around any and every food known to man. Chocolate Covered Raisins are no exception. There are endless recipes for desserts, Trail Mixes, and Granolas with amazing ideas for charcuterie boards. Including Mother’s Day and Father’s Day and even Easter which is right around the corner.
  2. It’s always nice to find a produce 100% made in the USA. Raisinets fit that bill so not only can you feel good about eating a healthier snack option, you are basically a good patriot to boot!
  3. The love affair between movies and Raisinets has stood the test of time with no indication of it waning. Even with movie nights at home, there are fewer things better than a box of Chocolate Covered Raisins; unless, of course, you mix them with your freshly popped Popcorn! Recipe for Chocolate Covered Raisins

Ingredients

Chocolate

1cup Raisins 

Directions:

  1. melt chocolate discs in a double boiler.
  2. dump in raisins
  3. stir for a while.
  4. when raisins are fully covered in chocolate pour into strainer until all access chocolate is gone
  5. pour the raisins onto pan and let sit until dry
  6. eat.
