Made to Be Broken

The Mommies Reviews

I would like to share a new novel Made To Be Broken that would make a unique Father’s Day Gift 2023 for the men on your Gift Giving list. Although women may enjoy Made To Be Broken as well. Below you will see my thoughts on Made To Be Broken because I was blessed to receive a copy of Made To Be Broken A Novel by Hugh Fritz in exchange for this review.

Made To Be Broken is a novel for anyone who enjoys action/adventure or fantasy genres! Looking at the cover of the book you might think this novel is for men or children in middle school or high school but that isn’t the case. Women will enjoy the story just as much as men. As for middle schoolers or high schoolers yes they might enjoy the story which I shared with Charlie and he did read the book with me and thought it was funny that there was a pot-smoking, self-described “genie,” with roots in the magical past, who can send dinner plates flying through his restaurant, as well as free the innocent from jail without needing a key. Nothing like the Genie from Aladden.

Hugh Fritz has created a novel that will be enjoyed immensely. Made To Be Broken is the first novel in the growing “Mystic Rampage” series. I would like to prepare you as parts of the book are violent. Using genies and magical abilities Hugh Fritz creates a universe centered on an urban gang with characters and their friends who are always struggling, bickering, and trying to fit the pieces together.

There is a sense of community, and the need to help others, in every niche of society. The more I read Made To Be Broken the more I knew this novel was a story I needed to share with David. At times I could almost feel David sitting beside me commenting and laughing at the antics of the genie which we would have liked to meet if real life.

If you haven’t had the opportunity to read, Made To Be Broken I hope you do as soon as possible. You will not know what you’re missing out on until you open Made To Be Broken and began reading the novel. if you’re like me you will not be able to put this book down until you finish the novel. Father’s Day 2023 is right around the corner I can’t wait to check out other novels by Hugh Fritz has other novels out to purchase for David.

About:

Flarence knows that Genies are supposed to help their masters by granting wishes, but he’s never been comfortable taking orders. To him, pummeling bad guys with magically enhanced weaponry feels like a much better way to use his powers. Darren is a gangster who wants to leave his reckless life behind so he can focus on providing for his family. Unfortunately, there are people in the neighborhood who won’t let him move on.

Soleil is a humble man who tries to lead a passive lifestyle. In times of peace or times of war, he can be found cleaning his cafe or singing along with rock-’n’-roll tunes while tending to his houseplants. Darren, Soleil, and Flarence will have to work together and step outside their comfort zones when a rogue Genie and a hot-headed police officer threaten the lives of their loved ones.

Flarence will be challenged to work with a criminal, Soleil will be forced to leave his sanctuary and act to help his friends, and Darren will face the possibility that being a gentle and caring family man may not be an option for him.

About the Author

Hugh Fritz is a fan of monsters, mad scientists, sorcerers, and anything that involves being with incredible powers beating each other senseless. After years of writing research papers, he decided it was time to give reality a rest and let his imagination run wild. This is his first book, and it has been an illuminating experience making the transition from reader to author.

He was born in Chicago where he spent most of his life until moving to the Southwest in 2015. He finds inspiration bouncing ideas off other novelists in a critique group, but hours of television and finding the right songs to put him in the writing mood play an important role as well. He has no plans to end the Genies’ adventures here, so be on the lookout for more magical mischief in the next book of the Mystic Rampage series.

Thank you,

Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
