Like You, Like Me (Review)

The Mommies Reviews

I would like to introduce you to a children’s book called Like You, Like Me by Jenny Sue Kostecki-Shaw (Author) Illustrated by Jenny Sue Kostecki-Shaw who sent me a copy of the book in exchange for this review. Charlie came downstairs this morning to ask me a question when he saw Like Me, Like You sitting on my desk. Charlie said mom look at the airplanes on the book we should make some. I said Charlie look closer and them and you will see there have stamps on them. Charlie thought that was neat and couldn’t wait to open the book up to see where they might be going.

We opened the book to read the story and discovered a Glob that showed where Tulsi’s home is which we can study in our Homeschool Geography Class when we study Countries. Would you like to join us? Charlie and I liked how the librarian recommended a pen pal for Tulsi which Charlie could use in his Homeschool Creative Writing Course. If you have children and they live in a State besides Texas and would like to have a Pen pal let me and Charlie know.

It was fun to lean how to say Hello in Kiswahili and no, I’m not going to tell you. You will have to pick up a copy of the book to find out. They would ask each other questions allowing them to learn about each other’s Countries which was fun. We learned they each have two houses. Then we learned each of them have siblings just like Charlie and I have. Do you have siblings?

Charlie and I liked learning what they do for music which Charlie can study in his homeschool music class. One of them is Homeschooled like Charlie and the other rides a bus to school like Charlie’s best friend Bradley did. Charlie thought it was fun to find out one likes to read books about outer space like Charlie does.

They both like to find things which Charlie and I do when we go on walks. Do you do this as well? We learned which animals they would like to be like which Charlie and I can study when we begin our lessons on animals. Would you like to join us? To find out what else they like to do you will need to pick up your own copy of Like You, Like Me,

About:

★ “A wonderful celebration of global friendship.” —Bookpage, starred review

“This story encourages young people to focus on the similarities that connect us in one human family. Highly recommended for all collections.” —School Library Journal

“Two pen pals delight in their differences and commonalities…. Bright, mixed-media illustrations visually emphasize difference as a means of connection.” —Kirkus Reviews

A pen pal picture book companion to the award-winning and bestselling Same, Same but Different—set in the United States and Tanzania—that celebrates the value of compassion, curiosity, and a global community.

Tulsi and Vanessa live on separate Continents—one in the Mountains in North America, and the other beside the Sea in Africa. By exchanging letters, they learn that they both have prankster brothers, love music, and collect treasures from nature. Their daily sights and sounds may be different, but their feelings about their experiences hold many similarities.

This thoughtful story celebrates the connections between two kids who live worlds apart. Together they rejoice in their shared love of family, friends, and community.
