I would like to share with you a win/win for Charlie in his Homeschool Lessons. As Charlie struggles with Homeschool and hates to sit down and do the work he needs to do. And his favorite question is always how much work do I have to do today? And when can I get on my game?
So the other day I got out the schoolbooks and I let Charlie know it was time for homeschool. And Charlie amazed me as he came to the kitchen table and sat down with me. Then Charlie asked what all we had to do and what he needed to start with.
So I asked Charlie to read Madeline. And usually Charlie would balk at reading especially a book that he would say is a girls book but this time he read Madeline with no fussing and then Charlie read 5 other library books I picked out for him to read. And without much help from me Charlie was able to read the books and stayed focused on the task. And he didn’t argue with me over how many books I asked him to read. Or which books I picked out for him to read.
Then I let Charlie know I wanted him to write a Book Report on Madeline. And that he had to use his best handwriting. And once done writing the book report I had some worksheets he would be able to color. And that we would be using them to make a book with. And Charlie loved being able to make the book. And has asked to make books more often.
So once we was is done I let Charlie know he could take a break. And go and play his Play Station 3 but that evening I would have more work at 7 for Charlie to do. And he didn’t have a problem with that. And just said to let him know what I would like for him to do at 7 pm.
So at 7 pm I let Charlie know he needed to turn off his Play Station 3. And I waited for him to fuss and argue but he didn’t. Charlie came right into the kitchen and sat down. So since I needed to print out the Spelling words I let Charlie help me print them off and he liked being the Teachers Helper as he called it. Then I asked Charlie to write his spelling words out for me and he did. With no complaint at all and even put them in ABC order without being asked to. Then I had Charlie do some math problems and even though they was addition and subtraction and Charlie didn’t fuss at all. And he hates subtraction so this was huge plus as well.
Then Charlie and I did Reading Comprehension 3rd grade workbook which I read to him as he struggles reading the pages in these workbooks. But Charlie paid attention and knew the answers and we didn’t have to back track and keep rereading it. And this is huge as usually I have to read it twice and still Charlie has to hunt for the answers. And know we both know we can move forward with 3rd grade and not have to do 2nd grade like we had been doing.
Then I let Charlie know at 8 we was going walking and Charlie didn’t even fuss with that. And asked if he would be able to play at the Park while we was there. And if he could bring his Bike and he hadn’t wanted to ride it in a while so this was a huge plus for us. As it allowed us to Just Get Up And Move!!
So once we finished all of the work for that day I told Charlie about Five In A Row and I explained how it worked and what we would be doing and Charlie was excited and couldn’t wait for the workbook and cookbook to arrive.. And since that day Five In A Row has arrived and Charlie loves doing the work in our Five In A Row Workbook .
