Hello, tomorrow is the last day of school for Charlie. Tomorrow I will have a 6th Grader. Where did the year go? To help Charlie prepare for middle school I have Language Arts Resources for Charlie to use this Summer.
As I was putting together the list of websites I wanted Charlie to check out. I thought you might like to check into them as well. If you have used these websites can you let me know what you thought of the websites and why you felt that way.

Age Range: 4-11 (Grades Pre-K-6, with parental supervision)
This ad-supported website offers a wide array of free, printable Language Arts worksheets that provide creative writing prompts and activities for students from preschool through sixth grade.
When you get to the site, just scroll down the page to see the creative writing worksheets that include:
Themed Acrostic Poems – Use these worksheet outlines to write poetry about the seasons and months of the year.
Quotation Worksheets – Read a quote by a famous person from literature or history (i.e., Ralph Waldo Emerson, Charles Dickens, Helen Keller, Abigail Adams, Ben Franklin, etc.), and write about what it means to you.
Miscellaneous Creative Writing Worksheets – Write a story to go with a picture, and use worksheets with writing prompts. You can also print out stationery and thank you notes to use at will.

Age Range: 5-18 (Grades K-12, with parental supervision) This website offers over 300 pages of fun activities to help kids enjoy creative writing! The designer, Bruce Van Patter, is an illustrator who shows kids how to bring their ideas for stories to life. He does offer some creative writing helps that can be purchased, but you don’t have to buy a thing to access the many freebies.
When you get to the site, you’ll see some featured activity pages. Look at the menu on the left side of the screen under the heading “A Quick List of Fun Stuff” that includes:
- The Story Kitchen – Enjoy using creative, interactive story-writing prompts.
- Mugshots – Click on a picture of a character and answer a set of questions to create your story’s character!
- KidTales – Use one of Bruce’s fun drawings to inspire a story of your own!
- What-if Genie – Look at the top of the page to read a “What-if” question that will inspire a story. Refresh the page (or click on the genie) to get a new one.
- Creative Times – Develop a story based on a wacky news headline!
- DaVinci’s Doodles – What is the story potential of a doodle? Try this activity and find out!
- Wacky Headlines – Help your child write “outside the box” by using parts of speech to create elements of randomness.
