LA GUITARRISTA

The Mommies Reviews

Good morning, how are you? I thought I would let you know GRAMMY and EMMY award-winning songwriter and author Lucky Diaz will publish his second children’s book with HarperCollins on May 2: La Guitarrista. I was blessed to receive a physical copy of this book in exchange for a review and we will be using this book in our Homeschool Music Class. Would you like to join us for reading and music time?

Before Charlie and I read the book we listened to the song. Charlie and I loved the beat which made us want to get up and dance. Would you like to join us? Before the song finished Charlie and I were singing along and couldn’t wait to play the song not only for David but my niece Lily and my nephew Jason.

Charlie and I thought the little girls on the cover of the book was cute and we were wondering what she was up to from the smirk on her face. Charlie let me know my niece Lily would have looked cute in her leggings and I needed the boots Charlie said. I agreed with Charlie that I wouldn’t mind having the boots although I wouldn’t mind having the orange guitar as well. How about you?

I had Charlie look up Palertero Man for our Language Arts class before we read LA GUITARRISTA that way we would be familiar with the other book. Charlie and I looked up Luky Diaz and Micah Player who we will be studying this week in our Drama/ Music Classes. If you know anything about them please come and share with us what you know.

About:

From the creators of Paletero ManLatin Grammy–winning musician Lucky Diaz and celebrated artist Micah Player—comes a story about a tenacious girl who achieves her wildest dreams with a little help from her community and a broken guitar.

When Canta finds a guitar in the trash, she is one step closer to becoming a rock star. Even though the guitar is broken and she doesn’t know how to play, nothing can stop Canta from going after her dreams. Readers will rock out to this empowering tale of resilience, community, the power of music—and never giving up on your dreams.

Also, Lucky has crafted a new “La Guitarrista” original song to go along with this story.  Here’s a listening link. The song will be released in time for the book’s publication.

Here is a fun tip I would like to share with you that you might not know some of the words are in Spanish which Charlie has been asking to learn. Which has lead us to start our Foreign Language studies and were looking for a Spanish Class to take. Then we will not struggle reading this book. Would you like to come with us?
