January 23rd National Pie Day #nationalpieday

The Mommies Reviews

I don’t know about you but it’s only 10:30 and I feel like I’m starving. It might be because I’m sharing a new Holiday with you. January 23rd National Pie Day #nationalpieday I wish my dad was here this morning because he believed in having dessert for breakfast. It’s to bad we don’t have anything here or I would also be having dessert for breakfast. Sometimes we just have to say heck to the diet.

I wish I could get to the grocery store this morning I would make the Chocolate Cool Whip Pie with a Graham Cracker Crust I like and a Cheesecake for David because it can be a Pie as well can’t it? Before you ask what about Charlie he isn’t much for dessert and there isn’t a Pie he likes. I will pick Charlie up a candy bar he likes.

National Pie Day #nationalpieday is sponsored by the American Pie Council. National Pie Day lets us enjoy one of the Countries favorite desserts guilt-free.

Pie exists in some form all over the world, including the United States who has a relationship with the flaky dessert. From Don McLean’s epic song “American Pie” to expressions like “as American as Apple Pie,” our country embraces the pie Apple in particular — as a symbol of national pride.

Get into the kitchen and preheat your oven and get to baking and make sure to invite a friend or family member to back with you. Or visit your local bakery, purchase a Pie or two and grab a slice, and celebrate National Pie Day.

NATIONAL PIE DAY 2024?

Apple, Cherry, Blueberry, or Pumpkin, today is the day to have a slice of America’s favorite dessert on National Pie Day. This can be a fruit pies, savory pies, or creams pies used for comedy, no pie is left behind on this holiday!

HISTORY OF NATIONAL PIE DAY

Did you know one of the oldest prepared foods, pie shows up in written recipes dating back as far as the ancient Romans. The first known pie recipe was for a rye-crusted goat cheese and honey pie. Would you like a slice? I believe I will pass on this pie. Did you know the Romans made pies with a variety of meats, seafood, and fruit, and developed a dense pie called placenta, similar to cheesecake. Roman feasts, pie played a role in several courses.

Until recently, pie crust was mostly used as a vehicle for filling. Unlike many of today’s luscious, buttery crusts, early pie crusts often didn’t get eaten at all. The crust acted as a container to keep the meat moist and prevent it from burning.

Here is a fun tip for you; Pies first appeared in England in the 12th Century, mostly filled with meat. The origin of pie fillings gave rise to jokes and horror stories, including the penny dreadful that would become “Sweeney Todd.”

When the Puritans and other English settlers fled for the New World, they took pie with them. But although no American Thanksgiving table is complete without Pumpkin and Pecan Pies, sweet pies didn’t make an appearance at the so-called “First Thanksgiving” and Pumpkin Pie wasn’t at the Thanksgiving meal.

Not to be confused with National Pi Day, National Pie Day has nothing to do with math and everything to do with the dessert. Pie was created in the 1970s by Charlie Papazian (who conveniently placed the day on his birthday), National Pie Day encourages us all to take a break and have a slice or two or even three pieces of Pie.

NATIONAL PIE DAY TRADITIONS

Celebrating National Pie Day is as easy as eating a slice of Pie, If you have time how about going all-out and hosting your own Pie-eating contests or bake-off! Pie is an all-American indulgence and every year people bake pies, using new flavors, they exchange recipes, and give Pies to loved ones. The American Pie Council (APC) encourages sharing your pie of the day on social media using the hashtag #NationalPieDay

The food marketing professionals get to work which means cafes and restaurants have promotions or special menu additions to celebrate pie and by the end of the day, the tradition is to have as much pie as you can.

Quick No-Bake Chocolate Pie (Jell-O Instant Pudding and Cool Whip)

Ingredients

  • Ready-made crust – Graham Cracker Crust is my choice of Pie Crust but any Chocolate flavor including Oreo would work or you could use a homemade crust.
  • Instant pudding mix – Chocolate flavor I use Jello Pudding but you could use store brand and I use the Pudding you cook not instant.
  • Milk – whole milk or 2% works best. I use 2% Milk because it’s what we drink and use to cook with in my home. What type of Milk do you use?
  • Cool Whip Whipped topping – or homemade. I only use Cool-Whip never Store brand which would also work.

Instructions

STEP ONE: Combine both packages of Pudding with cold Milk in a large bowl. Stir with a whisk until thickened and well combined-about one minute. The mixture will be very thick. Add a splash or two of Milk if needed to combine well. Spoon half the Chocolate filling mixture into pie shell.

STEP TWO: To remaining pudding, add half the whipped topping. Stir until well combined. Mixture will be much easier to work with. Spoon this mixture into the pie shell over the first pudding layer.

STEP THREE: Layer the rest of the whipped topping on top of the pudding. Top with mini chips, if desired.

Can be served immediately, or refrigerate to serve later.
