Jennifer Degl is a sponsor in our Christmas Gift Guide for Homeschooling and she gave me a copy of I Was Small, But Now I Am Tall in exchange for her spot.
Just in time for September being NICU Awareness Month, and World Prematurity Awareness Day (Nov. 17, 2020) Degl released a fun, engaging new children’s book, I Was Small, But Now I’m Tall (November 2020, BookBaby).
I was Small But Now I’m Tall helps children understand what it means when they hear that they were born prematurely. The book tells the tale of a baby who was born much too early, and spent many months in the NICU.
This baby, like many others, overcomes the obstacles threatening her survival and grows into a strong child. Through simple text and pictures, parents can use this book as a tool to explain to their curious toddler what it was like after their birth, and how far they have come.
“Most children are curious about their time as an infant, asking questions like ‘How much did I weigh when I was born?’ or ‘What did I look like?’, often followed by requests to see photos. These questions are difficult to answer as a NICU parent,” Degl says.
“I Was Small, But Now I’m Tall helps parents explain their child’s early beginning to them, all while showing them how they can grow to be a strong and exceptional child”.
