Welcome, I would like to share a new children’s book with you. Grab the Mic (I Grab the Mic, 1) written by Malik Sickstein (Author), Paige A. Mason (Illustrator) who sent me a physical copy of the book in exchange for this review.
In our Homeschool Music Class this week Charlie will be reading Grab the Mic (I Grab the Mic, 1) because this book touches on stage fright which Charlie may experience when he has to perform in front of us this year. If so, then I will need to add a Public Speaking Class to our Homeschool Curriculum. I might need to take the public speaking class with Charlie to get better speaking in front of people as well.
Charlie loved the cover of the book and the children hiding behind the curtain which he said he used to feel like doing when he had to perform in public school. Have you ever felt like this because I have more times than I would want to count. I love how the author dedicated the book to anyone who has ever felt small which I am sure has happened to all of us at least once or twice.
As I read the story, I could feel the little girls sweating and even found myself looking at own hands as she grabbed the microphone. We learn her throat feels like its closing up. Then she hears a po and a crackle. Her tongue and jaw don’t want to work. Thew main character tries to dream she can take flight over the audience.
Charlie liked seeing her say she would like to have 2-0foot stilts which I wouldn’t want to try. Would you? She remembers the adults told her the word stagefrieght which we can add to our Homeschool Spelling Test and study it in class this week. They tell me to “picture everyone in there underwear”. I couldn’t do that because I would start laughing. How about you?
Then the main characters first words come out. She becomes the captain of debate. Then she is a judge, and everyone listens to her. Then a sportscaster calling the game. Now she is a singer or a reporter. Then I announce a Scientific Breakthrough we could use in our Homeschool Science Class.
To find out what else she might do you will need to pick up a copy of Grab the Mic (I Grab the Mic, 1). Through all of this the main character learns confidence. If you’re in front of a microphone and become scared just remind yourself while your there then grab the microhome and speak. You have nothing to be afraid of.
Grab the Mic (I Grab the Mic, 1) is a picture book that teaches children it’s okay to be afraid but also teaches us how to overcome our fear through the story and fun illustrations you will find in this storybook. Which is for young children but anyone who is afraid to speak in public can and will learn from Grab the Mic (I Grab the Mic, 1).
Kiss stage fright goodbye…
You’re superfly.
Grab that mic!
I Grab the Mic is this first in a picture book series featuring kids overcoming challenging scenarios and building confidence, all written through the lyrical hip-hop inspired verse. In this first story, a young girl and her friends grapple with the nerves that comes with speaking and performing in front of a group. Ultimately the kids all find the confidence to share their voice!
i hope you enjoyed this children’s book from PawPawPrintsPublishing.
Thank yu,
Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
