How to Redesign Your Bedroom for Better Sleep

The Mommies Reviews

The bedroom is one of the most overlooked rooms in the home, so far as home décor goes. But there are few rooms in your home that will impact your health and happiness as much as the bedroom does. Think about it—the bedroom is your personal sanctuary to relax after a long day at work and with your family. If you’re not sleeping very well, there’s a good chance that your bedroom isn’t very accommodating for sleep. Here are a few tips on how to redo your bedroom so that you’ll be able to sleep better.

Get a Better Mattress

Do you frequently wake up in the morning feeling tired or sore? Or are you constantly tossing and turning, unable to find a comfortable sleep position? Then there’s a good chance that you may need to upgrade your mattress. You really can’t go cheap on a mattress unless you want to struggle with sleepiness and lack of energy during the day. A high-quality mattress is essential for getting the best rest possible and waking up feeling positive and energetic.

Consider getting a memory foam mattress rather than a spring mattress. Memory foam mattresses conform to your body shape and weight to provide you with a pleasant cradle that perfectly supports your body while you sleep. Most memory foam mattresses come in a variety of “firmness” levels so you can find one that’s a little springier if you need sturdier support.

Add Some Lamps

Your ceiling light shouldn’t be the only light in your bedroom—you should also have one or two lamps by your bedside. Ideally, these lamps will be much softer than that of your ceiling light. Lamps are a great way to help make yourself sleepy before bedtime. Bright ceiling lights and the blue light that’s emitted by electronic screens can keep our brains from preparing our body for rest. An hour before bed, get in the habit of putting away your devices, and relax for an hour by the dim lamplight (a very good opportunity to do some reading).

The Casper Glow Light is specially designed to help you get sleepy in the evening, so consider getting one for your nightstand.

Incorporate Nicer Furniture

Sometimes you can feel totally at peace when you spend the night in a nice hotel. Nice hotel rooms usually feel more glamorous and comfortable because they’re equipped with good furniture. There’s nothing wrong with buying cheaper, assemble-it-yourself furniture, especially if you’re on a budget. But high-quality bedroom pieces will make your room a little more luxurious to sleep in.

Consider getting some Hooker bedroom furniture for your room. Hooker has a good reputation for producing high-quality furniture that’s durable and which encompasses a variety of styles. Your bedroom will look a whole lot more stylish, and you’ll also have plenty of storage furniture to store all your things and prevent your bedroom from getting cluttered—another great way to ensure you sleep well.

Insulate Temperature and Sound

You may have difficulty sleeping because your room is too hot or too cold, or because there’s too much noise seeping into your bedroom (very likely if you live in an urban area or if you just have noisy neighbors). Thankfully, there are some easy ways to fix these problems.

So far as insulation goes, you can put some sealant around your bedroom windows to close up cracks that may be letting warm or cold air in. But one of the best ways to boost your bedroom insulation and keep out noise is to hang up some blackout curtains.  These curtains are very thick and uniquely designed to insulate, block out light, and block out sound from entering your room and keeping you from sleeping.

Change Up the Color Palette

Maybe the only thing you need to do to your bedroom is change up the color palette. Consider repainting your walls with new colors that make you feel more relaxed. You might not even need to repaint all of the walls. Painting a single wall can help accent the other colors in your bedroom and give them a little more pop. You can explore a variety of paint colors at Behr.com.Hopefully these minor bedroom changes will go a long way in helping you get better rest!
