Sales people are emotional; everyone knows that. Sometimes, you need to push the right buttons to get their blood pumping (the right way, of course). There are solutions that never miss. Here are three that have passed the test, when it comes to bringing back your sales team to life.
Take Them Out to play Airsoft
The sales department is a competitive one. In fact, if you don’t have it in you, chances are that you will never be a great salesman. When everyone seems to be asleep, it is time to wake them up by heading straight into the warpath. Airsoft is a war game that is played into large open fields. It simulates war between two rival clans. Your team will have a chance to get the adrenaline pumping in their veins, as they get dressed and pick up an AKM airsoft gun before they head out to victory.
This will be a great chance to get your leaders back on track. Some will be planning and scheming to defeat the enemy, while others will be first in line to lead the team into battle. The energy that it will bring everyone will last for weeks. When you are back at the office, you need to use it by planning your next sales campaign by paralleling the concept of going to war. There is no doubt that you will see rewards at the end of the day.
Create a Movie Night and watch “Boiler Room”
There are many movies that can work well with a sales team. Any that has a speech about going to war will do (“Braveheart” will certainly work). But if you really want to pump up the boys and girls, “Boiler Room” is the movie to watch. Those of the latest generation will discover a young Vin Diesel, before he got to the top of Hollywood (2000). This movie shows a bunch of young adults being thrown into the arena of sales. Everyone will be anxious to pick-up a phone and start calling, right after the lights come up. This said, if you work for a politically correct company, make sure you show that movie outside their walls. Back in those days, many things could be said and done which are refrained upon in this day and age.
Initiate a Contest
This is the most conservative way of getting your sales team back in line. But let’s face it: If there is one thing they enjoy more than adrenaline, it has to be money and the perks that it brings. Make it an original one, though. To do so, you should involve your team. Take them out to dinner and launch the question: What is it that you would really love to do? For some of the answers, you probably won’t be able to offer something (such as falling in love). But take the answers that made the most sense to everyone and turn it into a prize. If you can make it a team’s reward, it will be even better. Just make sure that the person who comes in first gets something more…
