Homeschooling Freebie Resources

The Mommies Reviews

As we finish up another week in Homeschooling I wanted to share Homeschooling Freebie Resources brought to you courtesy of Kids Discover. If you have used these resources in the past leave me a comment letting me know what you thought of these resources and why.

Controlling the Mississippi

Controlling the Mississippi
In addition to the rapids and falls a boat must traverse, the Mississippi River drops almost 1,500 ft. in elevation from its source to its mouth. That explains why it took the first steamboat 82 days to complete its journey from Pittsburgh, PA to New Orleans, LA–arriving on January 10, in 1812. But how does a boat descend properly, if it’s not like the log flume at Six Flags? You can see here in our interactive guide on Locks!
The Mona Lisa

The Telephone
Can you believe it’s been over a decade since the original iPhone was released??? It was January 9, 2007 when Apple CEO Steve Jobs made the announcement that would change how we viewed phones forever.

The Mona Lisa
Welcome to the United States, Ms. Lisa–or Mona Lisa, as most know her. On January 8, 1963 Leonardo Da Vinci’s masterpiece made its debut on U.S. soil. Da Vinci was initially contracted by Mona Lisa’s husband, who desired a portrait of his wife.

Martin Luther King Jr. believed positive words and nonviolent actions could change the world.Even though it’s past Monday, January 21st, we’d like to ask you to help us celebrate the life of this revolutionary man by making there entire Unit available for free.

In addition to these 7 topics, here are additional free resources to prepare:

The New Deal

The New Deal
On January 6, 1941 President Franklin D. Roosevelt gave his State Of The Union Address–which famously became known as the “Four Freedoms Speech.” One of the country’s most transparent and vocal presidents, FDR believed his plain speaking and positive attitude made people feel better. So he kept doing his broadcasts, which became known as “fireside chats.”

Radio and Television

Radio and Television

Did you know that “SOS” wasn’t the first distress signal adopted for radio use? It was during this week, in 1904, that the Marconi International Marine Communication Company announced the purpose and immediate implementation of “CQD“–which ended up being replaced with SOS just two years later.

Thank you,
