Homeschool Resources: Virtual Tour/ Fieldtrips

The Mommies Reviews

Good morning, welcome to our Homeschool Resources: Homeschool Resources: Virtual Tour/ Fieldtrips. Check out the resources below and let me know if you have used these sites with your children. If you did what did you think of the resources and why?

Dan Taylor/Destination360: Virtual Tour of Mt. St. Helens

Ape Cave

All grades, with parental supervision

This website offers 360-degree panoramic images of the Mt. St. Helens Volcano as it looks most recently.
When you get to the site, you see the instructions on how to view the Panoramic images. Then use the scroll bar to move down and read about:

  • Spirit Lake
  • Ape Cave
  • Johnston Ridge Observatory

And to the right, you can read some Fun Facts and see the Satellite Map of the area.
This is a great way to see the view from the top without hiking in and back out again for almost 10 miles

Sparkito! Kinder

Sparkito! Kinder is an interactive, multi-subject program in English and Spanish that is designed to teach Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Language, and Music academic concepts for the Pre-Kinder and Kindergarten levels.

Oregon Coast Aquarium

All grades, with parental supervision.

Explore the exhibits at the Oregon Coast Aquarium with this website sponsored by the Aquarium.
See what types of Animals live in the Aquarium by selecting an image from the available exhibits:

  • Sandy Shores
  • Rocky Shores
  • Coastal Waters
  • Secrets of Shipwrecks
  • Sea Otters
  • Harbor Seals
  • Sea Lions
  • Giant Pacific Octopus
  • Seabird Aviary
  • Turkey Vultures
  • Orford Reef
  • Halibut Flats
  • Open Sea
  • Aquarium Grounds
  • Big Bites

Once an exhibit has been selected a page opens with a description and images of the location. Many of the pages offer a “What lives there?” section with images of Creatures that live in a location. Select one of the Animals to learn about it, its range and habitat, and more.

In addition to the above exhibits, continue with your Explore Our Exhibits – Oregon Coast Aquarium Virtual tour by selecting the “Experience” in the upper menu, then select the “Live Cameras” to see the Seabird Cam, the Otter Cam, the Shark Cam, and the Earle Cam.

Under the “Education” link of the upper menu, find “Education Programs” then the text link in the first paragraph, On-Site School Programs page to download adaptable educational materials to use with your virtual tour.

Thank you,

Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
