Explore the art world with this website from the Fine Arts Museum of San Francisco.
Browsing through the collections can be done in several ways. If the artist or piece name you are looking for is known, use the search box in the middle of the page.
Or perhaps you would like to browse through collections based on what type it is. If so, scroll down and select the appropriate option from the menu on the left side of the page.
Looking for something made during a specific time period? Choose from the 15th century through the 21st century. Studying a specific country? Find artwork made there. You can also see artwork based on its location in the museum.
Once you have opened a collection page window, select the image of the art to see a larger picture and to learn more about the piece as well as see any other available contemporaneous works.
As with any site, parents should always monitor their students’ use of this website as some artwork could be deemed unacceptable for family viewing.
Thank you,
Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
