Good morning, welcome back to day 8 of the 10 Days of Homeschooling For First Year Families. This morning are going to talk about “Support Systems”. As we talk more about Homeschooling I wanted to stress to you build you a support system. As it will make a difference on the days you feel like throwing in the towel.
If the support is local you can plan Field Trips together and if the children are studying the same things one person can teach your child as well as there children.Especially if there is something you do not feel comfortable teaching. Or if there are days one of you is sick or needs to run errands the other one could take your students. Not only that though it allows you to have someone to talk to when it seems like all you do is teach and talk to children. Without a support system you can lose yourself.
For my family me I know there are local Meet Up groups that I can join but at this time I haven’t. Although I plan on finding one in my area soon as I know it will make teaching Charlie easier. As well as give me someone to talk to instead of always being inside by myself. They will be able to help me stay of track with teaching Charlie and offer suggestions when I am lost.
To find a support group in your area check out MeetUp.com and type in Homeschool groups and it will pull up Homeschool Meet-Ups in your area. Or you can be brave and start your own group on Homeschooling group. Especially if there are classes you would like to teach. Or if have specialties other homeschooling families can use.
Another place to find Homeschooling groups is on Facebook just type in Homeschool and your State and it should pull up local groups for you. In a lot of these groups they even set up Field Trips and parties and things you can join in. As well as host for them. I have even seen book clubs in some of them. Or PE classes being offered.
Once again Google Homeschooling classes in your area and it will pull up classes and meetings you and your family can check into. Because I did this for my area and what I didn’t realize was there was a place in Watauga called The Center for Home Education that Charlie and I will be checking out this year. The Center for Home Education host classes and plays and even has a store inside where we can purchase used Homeschooling Items.
If your in Fort Worth or Dallas and thinking of Homeschooling you should call them and set up a appoitment and let them tell you what all they have to offer your children.
Thank you,
Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
