Fractions are something I have been having nightmares about as I know I will need to teach them to Charlie this year. This morning as I was online going through emails I came upon one for a new Homeschool Resource. It is from TeachableApps, and it is the Fraction Shape Maker, and I can’t wait to check it out to see if it can make teaching fractions more straightforward.
Have you tried to draw simple shapes to represent fractional values in standard office applications, e.g., dividing a circle into five equal parts in PowerPoint? This app was created out of frustration when working on our fraction worksheets. Anytime, we tried to split a standard shape into an odd number of equal parts; we had to spend a lot of time tweaking and adjusting lines. So, we wrote a program to draw shapes for fraction values.
This simple web-app helps teachers and parents draw fundamental circles or polygons to represent fractions in presentations and worksheets. Just choose the number of equal parts (up to 36) and the number of components to shade and download the shape as a PNG file. You can also choose a different color and rotation!
Check out the Fraction Shape Maker App and let us know what you think!
Thank you,
Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
