It’s
Wednesday, May 9, 2018, and time for
Language Arts in our Homeschool Classroom. So this morning I am bringing you a new resource website to check out. The new Homeschool Resource comes from BookBox. If Charlie does not read for himself, then I will find a place with books that will read to him. So I thought you might like to check out this new resource as well.
Here is the first story Gajapati Kulapati Charlie and I listened to as it was about an Elephant. Once the story finished I put together a list of spelling words for Charlie to work, then I had him write a book report about the story we listened to and then he drew a picture of what might happen in the future.
Small noses catch small colds. Big noses catch big colds. Poor Gajapati Kulapati has a big nose, and he caught a huge cold.
Recommended Website:
Age Range: 4-12 (Grades PreK-6, with parental supervision)
This website offers a selection of culturally diverse children’s fairy tales and stories that you can listen to for FREE in a variety of languages!
Also, you can
download activities, and play interactive puzzles and games based on the stories.
The free audio stories in MP3 format are an adjunct (and a teaser) to the commercial sale of digital books at the site, but you do not have to purchase anything to enjoy the free PDFs, MP3s, games, and activities. The digital editions synchronize text, audio, and visual media to create an educational and entertaining reading experience for children. The digital books based on proven methods of Same Language Subtitling (SLS) that not only enhance children’s basic literacy but also facilitate their proficiency in foreign languages.
When you get to the site, you’ll see a menu of stories. Select a book and choose the language you prefer (some stories come in more languages than others). Wait for the story to download and then listen to it online. If you want, you can download the free PDF so that you can read along. Then, once you’ve heard the story, you can do the free activities themed around it. (Note: Not all of the stories have accompanying activities.)
This is a terrific resource for encouraging the development of language arts and foreign language skills that will engage the young and young at heart.
Thank you,
Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
