Homeschool Minnesota DNR: Virtual Tours

I missed sharing last weeks Virtual Filed Trip with you all as I work I have Charlie attending a Virtual Field Trip called Minnesota DNR: Virtual Tours where Charlie is learning about Minnesota. Once he finishes, I will have him write up a report on what he learned. This way he can work on his own while I finish things I needed to do.

On May 11, 1858, Minnesota became the 32nd state to join the Union. Discover the parks, trails, waterways and more of Minnesota with this page from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.
When arriving at today’s link, scroll down the page to locate a destination and then choose from two types of tours:
  • Panoramic tour – Explore with multiple 360° images. When the window opens, use your mouse or arrow keys to move around the image. Locate the “Pin” in the image to move to the next destination in the park or select an image in the bottom picture strip. There is also a drop-down map available at the top of the image to find another location within the park. Hover over the blue dots on the map for the name of the location and click on the image to load. Descriptive text accompanies each image.
  • Snapshot tour – Each tour provides multiple images along with informational texts. At the bottom of each tour, there are additional links to go to the home page of the location.
In addition to the panoramic and snapshot tours, the following locations also include video tours:
  • Lake Vermilion-Soudan Underground Mine State Park
  • Forestville/Mystery Cave State Park
  • Iron Range Off-Highway Vehicle State Recreation Area
  • Heartland State Trail (Video tour only)
  • Paul Bunyan State Trail (Video tour only)
  • Gitchi-Gami State Trail
  • Root River State Trail
  • Harmony-Preston Valley State Trail
(Please note that some of the video tours are stored on YouTube, so as always be sure to view prior to allowing children to use the site.)

When you have finished with your tours, use the upper menu to navigate to the Teacher Resources page to find downloadable educational materials. Select the Education & Safety option,  then scroll down to the Natural Resources section to locate the Teacher Resources link.

This page makes a nice addition to your state studies resources.

I have a question for you as I would like to have Charlie study the States next year and I will be looking for more resources and Virtual Field Trips we can take. Do you have any resources we can use? If so would you leave me a comment with the links to the resources so I can check them out?
Thank you,
Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
