Homeschool Field Trips in or around DFW: Colorado Bend State Park

Homeschool Field Trips in or around DFW

It’s funny when I began to research Homeschool Field Trips in or around DFW: Colorado Bend State Park never came to mind. But did you know its 167 miles · Light traffic · 3 hr 6 min to get here? If you left early in the morning and stopped for Breakfast you could arrive by 9 am spend most of the day and be home in time to go to bed?

Colorado River Wilderness

If you had the weekend off you could spend a weekend exploring the unspoiled Wilderness of Colorado Bend whic is two hours Northwest of Austin. For my family again this would be a Day Trip.

Things to Do

Charlie, David and I would stop and check out Gorman Falls, then cool off in Spicewood Springs. Then David could Fish while Charlie and Paddle the river/ Then a a family we could take a Cave tour. Before heading home we could take a hikethrough the 35 miles of hike and bike trails.

If you plan on visiting here make sure you get more information about what you can do here on there  Park Activities page.

Camping

Colorado Bend offers back-to-nature camping. Choose from drive-up sites, walk-in tent sites or primitive hike-in sites. The drive-up and hike-in sites have water in the area, but no hookups. Composting toilets are near the main camping area and at one trailhead. An open-air, rinse-off shower is near the campground. Which would allow Charlie the opportunity to Camp Out which he has been asking to do.

If your part of a Homeschool Co-Op you could reserve one of the group camps for your next Homeschool adventure.

Wild Cave Tours

These are not be offeried at this time but when your aready to visit things might have changed so it couldn’t hurt to call and ask.

Gorman Falls Hike

Take a self-guided tour to this 70-foot spring-fed Waterfall. Come prepared for a 3-mile round trip hike over rough and rocky terrain. I sure hope my knee holds up because I don’t know about you but I would love seeing a Waterfall and I know David would as well. As for Charlie who knows
