Kindergarten Day

Happy National Kindergarten Day April 21, 2021 - YouTube

The past two years School hasn’t been anything like what we remembered prior to Covid-19 and the Pandemic. My nieces and even my nephew started school last year.

Jason was able to attend part of school at school then he was moved to Virtual School. My niece Lily wasn’t able to go at all. Making them miss most of the activities including Graduation. I wonder if life will ever return to normal?

It’s Kindergarten Day and the first day at Kindergarten is a memorable, exciting, nervous, and anxious time for mother and child. Most children and mothers will never forget the first day at Kindergarten. Hopefully, it was a good experience for all!

Kindergarten Day is celebrated in honor of Friedrich Froebel who was born on this day in 1782. In 1837, he started the first Kindergarten in Germany. It became popular quickly.

Kindergartens were originally a 1/2 day to get children acclimated into learning, social interaction, and school, in a fun, yet educational manner.

When I went I did only go half a day but Charlie and Suzzane both had to go full time. Kindergarten has evolved in most areas into a full time program. This is partly the result of increasing pressures on education, and partly due to the increase in working mothers in America.

Celebrate today with a trip down memory lane. Pull out the old pictures of you and/or your child’s first day at Kindergarten.

Then watch: Kindergarten Cop and create your child favorite meal from back them. That is if you can remember it because Charlie says he can’t. LOL

Administrative Professionals Day (Executive Admin’s Day, Secretary’s Day) – date varies

When you own your own business like I do you might be the only Emplyee you have Does this mean you do not have a Secretary? The answer is yes, you do. Your that person and should be celebrated today.

Take a long lunch and bring yourself some flowers. On the way home or if you work from home have your favorite meal delivered this evening. Watch your favorite move about a secretary.

National Professional Secretaries Week and National Secretary’s Day was created  in 1952 through the work of Harry F. Klemfuss of Young and Rubicam. Klemfuss recognized the importance and value of the secretarial position, to a company or business and to management.

His goal  in creating this day, was to encourage more women to become secretaries. (Nowadays, that would be both women and men). Using his skill and experience in public relations, Klemfuss, promoted the values and importance of the job that secretaries do. In doing so, he also created the holiday in recognition of the importance of secretaries.

The name of this special day has changed and evolved over the past few decades. Yet, the importance of recognizing these vital individuals has continued to grow.

The two new terms in used today are: “Administrative Professionals” and “Executive Administrators (or Admins)”. The two names sometimes mean different roles and responsibilities in different companies and organizations. Broader terms, that encompass more positions than the original “Secretary” role.

The name change recognized and acknowledgd that the role has changed significantly since 1952. For the better at that or at least we like to think so.

We think Klemfuss would agree with the evolution of Secretary’s Day. In Harry Klemfuss’ day, these positions were the realm of women. Today, you find males in these positions, too. I bet he never would have thought a man would be a Secretary.

Ways of recognizing your Administrative Professional(s) today are:

  • Flowers
  • Cards, often with restaurant or shopping gift certificates
  • Take them to lunch
  • Candies
  • Assorted Gift Baskets

Thank you,
