Welcome back to our series for Holiday Insights, Daily Holidays, Traditions, & Facts! April 25th. Check out the Holidays below and let me know which one you would most want to celebrate and why.
It’s East Meets West Day…. time for a few introductions.
Many Sports team hold annual East vs. West games. Most often, they’re held by high school sports teams. I would like to remind you they don’t-t have to be limited to Sports teams. It could be any club or organization that holds competitions, and can be geographically separated into and East and West groups.
These special games usually serve a number of purposes, including:
- Charitable benefits
- Sports booster club
- To honor /or showcase the best players of the season
I would like to invite you to have your family join mine is hosting a celebration for “East Meets West Day” by holding an East Meets West game or competition.
I would like to ask you a question. What do you know about your DNA? Don’t you think it’s about time you found out?
National DNA Day was created to encourage students, teachers and the general public to learn about genetics and genomics. This day also encourages us to learn about current research and advances.
The special event commemorates the completion of the Human Genome Project in 2003. Along with the discovery of DNA’s double helix in 1953.
A great way to celebrate National DNA Day, is to get your DNA tested, to identify your ancestry. Armed with your DNA results, you will find it exciting, and perhaps a little intriguing, to research your ancestry to see who is in your family tree.
I would like to ask you a question. Do you have anyone famous in your family tree? I can’t tell you if David and I do or not which is why we should get our DNA Testing done.
Once your kit arrives, all you have to do is spit in a little tube and mail it back. The results will come in a couple weeks. An exciting search for members of your family tree will follow. Be prepared. You don’t know what you will uncover about your ancestors.
About Penguin Awareness Day, and World Penguin Day:
Penguin Awareness Day, and World Penguin Day are great opportunities to learn about and appreciate one of the few natives of Antarctica. On these days, spend a little time learning about them…. a pictorial book or internet site is fun. You can also watch a documentary of these cute and popular, grounded birds.
These days are also a time to wear black and white—penguin colors. However, wearing a tuxedo in their honor is optional. It is also popular today to tell a penguin joke or two.
History and Origin of Penguin Days:
World Penguin Day coincides with the annual Northward Migration of Penguins. This happens each year around April 25th. Penguins do not fly. They walk, or waddle their way to and from.
Did you know? Penguins are found in Antarctica, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Chile, Peru, the Falkland Islands, and the Galapagos Islands.
Te celebrate World Penguin Day Charlie and I will be hosting #FamilyMovieNight and watch movies featuring #Penguins including Mr. Poppers Penguins and Happy Feet and Happy Feet Two.
Thank you,
Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
