He’s Not Just Teasing

The Mommies Reviews

For our Christmas Gift Guide I would like to ask you to check out the children’s book  He’s Not Just Teasing  written by Jennifer Licate. I received copy of  He’s Not Just Teasing in exchange for a spot in this years Christmas Gift Guide for: Homeschool.

Even though Jennifer Licate sent me a copy of He’s Not Just Teasing  in exchange for a spot in our Christmas Gift Guide Shopping for: Boys & Girls my family will use this book in our classroom.

He’s Not Just Teasing is a quick-read chapter book focused on teaching children ages 9 through 12 the differences between teasing and bullying, and how to deal with both.

Parents can read this book with their children (or children could read on their own) to promote meaningful conversations about bullying and how to deal with it.

When parents are busy, it’s hard to have the energy to tackle a subject like this. He’s Not Just Teasing gives parents a way to start this conversation.  Bullying effects all children, either as a victim of bullying, the bully or a bystander.

Through an engaging plot with relatable characters, children learn how to deal with bullying, the importance of self-advocacy, the power of kindness and of the role of the bystander.

Plot of book: Malcolm has a problem, and his name is Joe. Malcolm is often the target of good-natured ribbing because he’s an excitable scatterbrain.  Malcolm knows the jokes and laughs at his expense are all in good fun and sometimes even teach him a lesson.  But the snark coming from Joe isn’t funny.

Joe taunts and bullies Malcolm. When he attacks, Malcolm’s friends do nothing. They are silent bystanders, and Malcolm is left to wonder why.  Can he find the courage to ask them for help, or will Malcolm have to stand up for himself?
