Hanukkah is something we celebrate in our Home but because I want Charlie to learn as much as he can about different Holidays, we will be studying Hanukkah this year. Which is why I was excited to be able to review Hanukkah at Monica’s which Charlie can read during our lessons for his reading class. If you know of anything about Hanukkah or things, we should study please leave me a comment.
Here is a definition of Hanukkah which is a lesser Jewish festival. Which will las eight days beginning on the 25th day of Kislev (in December) and commemorating the rededication of the Temple in 165 BC by the Maccabees after its desecration by the Syrians. It is marked by the successive kindling of eight lights.
No one loves Hanukkah more than Monica. And celebrating the Festival of Lights — lighting candles, singing blessings, eating delicious fried foods, and playing Dreidel — is even more fun with friends. Luckily, Monica has lots of friends, including a robot, a pirate — even a Jellyfish! Who’s going to arrive at her party next?
Meet the Author Varda Livney:
I am originally from the U.S. but now live with my family on a Kibbutz in Israel. Our house is pretty much smack-in-between the baseball field and the dairy barn. This ensures that I get to hear the crack of the bat and smell Cows while I paint.
The 70-Word Resume: I graduated (with honors) from The Bezalel Academy of Art & Design in Jerusalem. I worked at an ad agency and then at a fashion company before deciding to become my own CEO. I have illustrated 5 books for Simon & Schuster (one of which I also wrote), licensed over 400 cards to Recycled Paper Greetings, produced and marketed my own t-shirt line, and designed tissues, notebooks, wall art, and giftbags.
You should work with me not only because my art is whimsical and quirky and I can paint Bunnies and starry skies like nobody’s business, but also because I listen, work hard, respect deadlines and play well with others. During our Homeschool Cooking Class Charlie will be preparing
- Latkes. Latkes, commonly known as potato pancakes. That Charlie will prepare using shredded or mashed Potatoes that are shallow-fried.
- Brisket
- Kugel- a baked casserole, most commonly made from Lokshen or Jewish Egg Noodles or Potato.
- Donuts with Jelly Filling
