I would like to share a cookbook Charlie insists should be in our Halloween Gift Guide 23: The Unofficial Hocus Pocus Cookbook for Kids: 50 Fun and Easy Recipes for Tricks, Treats, and Spooky Eats Inspired by the Halloween Classic (Unofficial Hocus Pocus Books) by Bridget Thoreson (Author). I received a copy of the cookbook for this review and a spot in our Gift Guide. Come join us and help us plan the menu for Charlie’s Homeschool Halloween Party.

If you know me at all then you know I do not watch SCARY MOVIES ever… Which is why Charlie and David were surprised to find out I like the Halloween movie Hocus Pocus is a funny movie that could be shown anytime of the year. Not only that it has Sara Jessica Parker in it. Should I say more?

I sat down this afternoon to read The Unofficial Hocus Pocus Cookbook for Kids. The cookbook brough me back to the 90s when Suzzane and my nephew were little. Allowing me to share a part of there childhood with Charlie and David. I had fun checking out the introduction and seeing which sections I most wanted to check out which was Desserts and Treats.

I learned it has been about 30 years since the film Hocus Pocus came out. In Homeschool I had Charlie read In the “Torture Chamber” How to Cook without an Ancient Spellbook in his Homeschool Cooking Class. In this section we are given instructions to do before cooking like washing our hands and before starting a recipe ask adults if they have any advice for you.

In our Spelling Class I had Charlie use common recipe terms the author shared with us. Then we got into breakfast which neither Charlie or I are big on but David loves. When Charlie and I want breakfast we eat it at night for dinner. Do you do that as well? Charlie did learn how to make Blueberry Syrup for his grandfather thanks to the Author.

For Halloween breakfast Charlie said he would like to make “Good Zombie Toast”. Next was main dishes and I would like to make Full Moon Quesadilla for David and Charlie which has Chicken but I will use Ground Beef in mine. Would you like a Quesadilla?

Charlie said how about Twist Thy (Chicken Fingers)? Charlie being Charlie and knowing how he likes to scare his dad and be gross said he would like to make David Dead Man’s Toes. Would you like one or two? I think I might try them. Next was sides and if you know David and Charlie the way I do then you know they might not eat anything from here even though I love my Veggies. How about you?

Although I might be able to get David to try Spell for Reuniting Potatoes but not Charlie. Then we moved onto Desserts & Treats. Charlie says please oh please can we make Fully Charged Crystal Candy. No, before you ask David and I don’t want any of this Candy. Do you?

We would like to have a Poisoned Apple Pie. How about you? I think I will surprise David and my sister Debbie with Black Flame Candle Pretzels. Would you like one? Now we are up to drinks and after all the foods and snacks we had I am thirsty. How about you?

At the moment it is to hot to have Hot Chocolate Brew but Winter will be here soon and we will need this recipe to keep us warm. For David when it gets chilly I will make him Cider Spell. Would you like some? Now we are at the end of the book and lets check out the conversions the author included for us with a index of the book.
