As you know, growing language skills in toddlers through reading helps promote early literacy. In a child’s first five years, reading books aloud supports foundational language skills. Interactive books with bright colors and illustrations are engaging and naturally draw their attention to make them feel like they’re reading along! By choosing books with simple storylines, it promotes the most important skills that come before first words: word and gesture imitation. Here are five board and picture books that encourage active participation to grow toddler’s language skills.

  1. Honk Honk Woo Woo (All About Sounds) by Emma Garcia (Ages 0-3, $8.99) –  A fun and engaging book identifying emergency rescue vehicles like police cars, fire trucks, and ambulances, with sounds toddlers and preschoolers can join in with.
