This is a review for the children’s book Greenlee Is Growing by Anthony DeStefano. I received a copy of in exchange for this re view.
I’ve never been one for Poetry but with Charlie going into 10th grade soon it’s a subject we need to learn together. A lot of the Poetry is stuffy, and I knew Charlie would be bored and not want to listen and learn what I was trying to teach. The more I thought about this and how to get Charlie to want to study Poetry I would think back to Charlie’s childhood.
At night I would put Charlie to bed, and we would read a couple books before he would go to sleep. A lot of those books we read contained Poetry. I’ve been pulling out Charlie’s favorite books from that time and rereading them with Charlie/ Discussing the Poetry and adding new books when I could.
Which is why I was excited to be able to share Greenlee Is Growing with Charlie because Greenless Is Growing is a rhyming picture book. Charlie and Ican use the pictures to create our own Poetry with after reading and studying what the Author shared with us. Then we can check out other books he has written.
If you haven’t had the opportunity to check out Greenlee Is Growing I hope you do soon as the cover reminds me of Spring or Summer with the flowers and the little girl having a Tea Party. I wish I could join her. Charlie loved the Dog looking over the fence which reminded Charlie of his dog Bear when we used to live in our home.
I love how inside the book there is a place to inscribe who the book is for and who it’s from making this the perfect Easter Gift for all the children in your lives. Or Teachers and Liberians to add to their classrooms. As well as for my nieces and nephews who are just beginning to read on their own. Which will keep them interested in reading.
Throughout Greenlee Is Growing we are taking on a journey through the different Seasons with things we can do during that time of year. First though the eyes of a little girl and at the end of the book we see the women the little girl has grown into and the adventures she went on. Would you like to join us on some of these adventures?
About:
A beautiful, poetic rhyming picture book celebrating the four Seasons and how they interact with the Seasons of our lives, from the award-winning, bestselling author of The Donkey That No One Could Ride
We first meet Greenlee as a young girl of three, in the flowering Springtime of life. Greenlee Is Growing follows her through the Spring of her youth and the Summer of her adulthood. By the end of the book, she is a lovely old woman knitting by the fire in the cold days of Winter.
Springtime is here! Springtime is here!
Snowstorms are gone and flowers appear.
Summer is here! Summer is here!
The days are much warmer, and rainbows appear.
Autumn is here! Autumn is here!
Red, gold, and brown leaves and Pumpkins appear.
Winter is here! Winter is here!
The days are much shorter, and Snowflakes appear.
Brave the harsh weather, don’t be afraid,
the end of the year God also has made.
For beautiful Springtime will be back, and then.
new joys and new life will rise up again!
