The Glorious Flight by Alice and Martin Provensen
The Glorious Flight by Alice and Martin Provensen is one of the books we will be using in our Homeschooling Class. As it is one of the books they asked use to read in Five In A Row. And since I haven’t heard of The Glorious Flight by Alice and Martin Provensen before, so I couldn’t wait to read The Glorious Flight. And Charlie was just like me and couldn’t wait to read The Glorious Flight b and asked if we would be able to read it as soon as we got home.
So as soon as we got home with The Glorious Flight Charlie and I sat down to read it. And because in Five In A Row we are to read the books to our students. And I am glad I was supposed to read The Glorious Flight to Charlie would have had trouble reading. As there was a lot of words neither of us has heard of before. But I was able to figure out how to say the words and to read The Glorious Flight to Charlie.
And as we got into the The Glorious Flight I thought Charlie might get bored and not want me to finish reading it to him. But he didn’t and he sat through the entire book with me. And asked if there was another part to it once we finished. And he enjoyed the story a lot and liked knowing it took place in France.
And Charlie and I both liked seeing the planes in the books and we can not wait to try and draw them in our art class. And it was fun to discuss things that happen in France. And to dry some of the items we learned.
“This book…recounts the persistence of a Frenchman, Louis Bleriot, to build a flying machine to cross the English Channel…. The text is succinct, caption-like in its directness and brevity….The paintings…add the necessary testure and tone to this marriage. This is vintage Provensen” – “School Library Journal”
