Timeline of Aviation
The first commercial Boeing 747 flight took place this week, as Pan American World Airways flew from New York City to London in 6.5 hours. This paved the way for more advanced airplanes, such as the Concorde–which only operated between 1976 and 2000.
Pop Culture
The first group of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees were admitted on January 23, 1986, and included some pretty iconic names from U.S. pop culture, including Elvis Presley, James Brown, Ray Charles, and Chuck Berry.
The Telephone
It started in 1876 with a wire running from his laboratory to his bedroom, but this week in 1915, Alexander Graham Bell inaugurated U.S. transcontinental telephone service, speaking from New York to Thomas Watson in San Francisco.
The Great Lakes and the Mississippi River
