The Mommies Reviews

Good evening welcome to our series sharing Food Holidays: September 28th, 2021. I wish my Step Son Travis would visit this evening because he loves Strawberry Cakes and Pies. I would have Charlie make his brother Travis and his dad a Strawberry Cream Pie. Would you like to have a slice as Charlie and I will be sitting this Holiday out because we don’t care for Strawberries.

National Strawberry Cream Pie Day

Today is Strawberry Cream Pie Day! Did you know that 70% of a strawberry cream pie’s weight comes from the strawberries themselves? That’s a lot considering that the fruit isn’t even in season in September!

When you set out to find the perfect strawberry cream pie there are many variations from which to choose. Some recipes use cream cheese in the filling while others call for whipped cream or custard. Crusts can be sweet or savory, strawberries can be whole or whipped into a mousse, and there are dozens of different toppings.

Find your favorite kind of strawberry cream pie or sample a selection to celebrate Strawberry Cream Pie Day!

Five Facts Strawberries

  • The garden Strawberry, Fragaria × Ananassa, is a hybrid species that is cultivated worldwide for its Fruit, the (common) Strawberry.
  • The Fruit (which is not actually a Botanical Berry, but an aggregate ‘accessory Fruit’)
  • Strawberries consumed in large quantities, either fresh or in prepared foods such as Preserves, Fruit Juice, Pies, Ice Creams, and Milkshakes.
  • Artificial Strawberry aroma is 3rd most widely used in food products.
  • The garden Strawberry was first bred in Brittany, France, in the 1750s via a cross of Fragaria Virginiana from Eastern North America and Fragaria chiloensis, which was brought from Chile by Amédée-François Frézier in 1714.

National Drink a Beer Day

So much Beer, so little time! National Drink Beer Day on September 28 always puts us in mind of Forrest Gump and his recitation of all the different kinds of Shrimp he loves. Remember? Well, today, we consider all the Beers that makes us happy.

HISTORY OF NATIONAL DRINK BEER DAY

Like most things, we look to the ancient Egyptians for answers. Historians point to Beer as a ceremonial drink over 5,000 years ago because papyrus scrolls have been discovered documenting Beer recipes. But the Mesopotamians may have actually been the first to develop beer over 10,000 years ago, before recorded history.

Beer made its way to Europe and gained popularity during the Middle Ages. (Why drink polluted, contaminated Water, when you can drink a safer alternative, Beer?) Eventually, German Monks became master Brewers, coming up with some of the Fermentation techniques that brought the world closer to the Beer we know and love today.

Did you know in European Cities like Prague — ordering Beer in a restaurant is cheaper than ordering Water? That is crazy!!

Europeans who arrived in the New World actually complained when they were out of Beer and had to brew more. (Apparently, the love of Beer was so strong, that upon arrival, brewing Beer was one of the first things on the Pilgrims’ to-do list!)

There are Light Beers with great flavor and less calories as well as Dark Beers like Guinness, served up warm in authentic English, Scottish and Irish pubs.. There are Ales and Lagers which are distinguished by the type of Yeast used in the Fermentation process.

Is Craft Beer on your radar? Millennials especially are showing much more refined palates and a broad knowledge of all kinds of Beer. You’ll find a wide spectrum of Craft Brews, foreign and domestic, to fit every taste.

If you’re really looking for something different, try Hard Cider which has a great “kick” to it! Foodie Alert: Don’t miss the perfect opportunity to pair a Beer with a new recipe. If you’re the adventurous sort, DIY with a home brew kit.

So on National Drink Beer Day, drink responsibly and in moderation, but enjoy. Pass up the White Wine or your evening Cabernet. Grab a Ice-cold glass of Beer with a good “head” on it and remember Beer is no longer just your parents’ brew!

NATIONAL DRINK BEER DAY ACTIVITIES

  1. if you want to try some new Beers then you should visit your local Brewery and order Beers to taste test. Don’t forget to bring friends, compare notes, and rate your favorite brews.
  2. Become the brew master you’ve always wanted to be by finally making your own Beer! Start by enjoying the final product on National Drink Beer Day. Did you know you can purchase beer-making kits online and in specialty stores.
  3. If you can’t get to a brewery and you don’t want to make your own Beer? No worries! Invite friends over for a cookout or a afternoon catching up over a few Beers.

WHY WE LOVE NATIONAL DRINK BEER DAY

  1. We all know Beer equals variety and with Craft Breweries quickly growing in number, there are more varieties of Beer than ever before. There are Nitro Brews, Milk Stouts, IPAs, EPAs, Lagers, Ales, Wheat Beers, Pilsners, Porters and Saisons. Beers infused with Coffee, Chocolate, Ginger, Grapefruit, Orange and Fruits and Spices.
  2. Beer equals good times because it’s relaxing to have a cold Beer when you get home from work, or to drink a Brewski with your dinner, and its great to enjoy Beer with friends. Cookouts, laid-back hangouts at a local bar, parties and festivals are all great occasions to drink an Icy Cold Beer.
  3. Let’s face it, we love the fact that Beer, like other forms of Alcohol, gives a little boost in self-confidence. We feel more at ease in crowds and find it easier to navigate in social settings. Just be sure not to go overboard or let Alcohol become your crutch. Drinking a beer is cool as long as you’re responsible!

Thank you,

Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
