Welcome to our series sharing Food Holidays: October- National Cookbook Month; I will be going to Walmart this morning and I plan on looking for a Kids Cookbook for Charlie to use in his Homeschool Cooking Class. Because like me and David’s mom I would like to start Charlie his own Cookbook Collection so he can always have recipes on hand to make meals for the people he loves.
I have a question for you. Do you collect Cookbooks? Do you use a Cookbook when Cooking? Do you have a favorite cookbook? If so leave me a comment of what cookbook it is so Charlie and I can look the Cookbook up.
National Cookbook Month
I have a question for you. Did you know October is National Cookbook Month? There are so many cookbook options to choose from, both in print and in digital formats. I don’t cook as much as I used to simply because most of the time its just Charlie and I at home. But I’ve been trying to teach Charlie how to cook and we’ve been collecting Cookbooks
One cookbook I would like to pick up is “Food You Want: For the Life You Crave,” by Nealy Fischer, “the flexible chef,” a cookbook with easy recipes for any time of the day. She wants to empower her readers to not feel they must always follow a recipe , but to have confidence and know-how to be able to swap out ingredients in recipes and have them taste great. She teaches us to:
- Adapt a recipe to make it your own
- Turn flops into wins
- Use what you have in the Icebox to create meals
- Substitute ingredients like a pro
There is a section on “Ingredient Flips,” providing a list of substitutions that help home cooks swap one ingredient for another. She also offers her list of pantry and refrigerated staples as well as a wish list of kitchen tools everyone needs.
“Some of the best recipes are born from a or a problem that you’re forced to solve, like making a recipe without a ingredient or a certain utensil or pan you need. You can improvise and still create a tasty recipe that hasn’t ever been made before.
Maybe you like online recipes more than cooking from a book these days. Many people do! Then you can search on Google for the recipes your wanting to create. Or you can find Cooking Websites online and take a class to turn you into the Cook you’ve always wanted to be.
Thank you,
Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
