Welcome to our series sharing Food Holidays: October, 2021. Charlie wanted me to ask if you would like to go to Breakfast as he would like to get a Bowl with Ham, Sausage, Eggs and Hashbrown’s or Charlie said he can make breakfast for everyone at home.
It’s Eat Country Ham Month. I wish my dad was here because he loved Ham and Eggs and when having Ham my dad always preferred Ham with the Bone in it. As for David and I its what we prefer as well as long as it isn’t a Salty Ham. A lot of people like a Sweet Ham which Charlie, David and I don’t care for. How about you or your family do you like Bone in Ham or a Sweet Honey Ham and why?
Eat Country Ham Month
Country Ham refers to Hams that are cured in the southern US in states like North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia. Along with Virginia who is famous for their Ham.
- 1 country-cured ham (16 pounds)
- Beaten Biscuits
Directions
- Step 1: The afternoon before you plan to serve the Ham, fill a pot or your sink with Water. Soak ham 4 to 8 hours to lose some of the saltiness; change the water 2 or 3 times, if possible. Rinse well, and scrape off any mold or green rind.
- Step 2: Wrap Ham well in Aluminum Foil. Place on a baking sheet. At 7 p.m. the night before you plan to serve the Ham, preheat the oven to 500 degrees. Place the wrapped Ham in a large roasting pan filled with 1 inch of Water, and bake for 30 minutes. Turn off the oven, but do not open the door. At 10 P.M., turn the oven back on to 500 degrees. Bake the Ham for 15 minutes more. Turn off the oven, but do not open the door. Leave the Ham in the closed oven overnight.
- Step 3: Remove Ham from the oven, then remove the aluminum foil. Using a very sharp knife, trim the rind and all the fat from the Ham. Serve the ham warm or at room temperature.
Thank you,
