I would like to share our series featuring Food Holidays: November 2022: National Pepper Month. It’s funny that this month is National Pepper Month as Charlie has been wanting to purchase all types of Peppers to try out in his Homeschool Cooking Class. While David is saying no, to all of the Peppers Charlie wants to try except for Jalapeno Peppers. Would you like to join us for Charlie’s taste testing contest this week.

People may take Peppers for granted, but that all changes come November. November marks the occasion of National Pepper Month. Peppers are a staple in many kitchens. It’s time to give these Fruits the attention they deserve.

NATIONAL PEPPER MONTH ACTIVITIES

  1. November is the perfect month to make your own Hot Sauce which only takes a few ingredients. Most recipes are fairly straightforward. Stock up on small glass bottles and start packaging your Hot Sauce.
  2. Search and see if you can find a class on Peppers. You’re sure to learn about different methods of growing Peppers as well as how to decode the Scoville Spice scale.
  3. National Pepper Month is the perfect time to whip up a batch of Stuffed Bell Peppers. If you want to spice things up a little and get out of your comfort zone try new Pepper varieties.

HOT PEPPER FACTS

  1. Hot Weather brings high prices. Peppers tend to be least expensive during the months of November-June.
  2. Did you know cooking Bell Peppers destroys their key nutrients, so it’s best to nibble away at Bell Peppers beforehand.
  3. Hanging Peppers is a great way to get them to dry. In some cultures it’s also believed Peppers bring health and good luck.
  4. Your familiar with red, yellow, orange, and green Peppers. Did you know Bell Peppers can also be black, brown, white, and purple.

WHY PEOPLE LOVE NATIONAL PEPPER MONTH

  1. Most grocery stores carry at least a couple of different Pepper varieties. Bell Peppers and Jalapeños are easy to find almost anywhere. Poblanos, Habaneros, and Serranos are also gaining a lot of popularity as well.
  2. Bell Peppers are packed full of vitamins A and C, and are widely known for boosting the immune system. Bell Peppers also have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits.
  3. Whether you love the burning sensation of biting into a Habanero or prefer to garnish your Salad with a Green Bell Pepper, there are a ton of different varieties. Everybody can find some type of Pepper that they enjoy.
