Welcome to our series sharing Food Holidays: May 29th, 2022. Did you know today is National Biscuit Day? If I had knew this I would have picked up a can of Biscuits this morning and made David and I Biscuits and Gravy for breakfast. Would you like to join us the next time I make this meal?
Nothing tastes like a flaky, Buttermilk Biscuit paired with Jam, or Butter to send our taste buds into overdrive. What better way to celebrate a long-standing Southern tradition than by commemorating National k Biscuit Day on May 14th? These flakey, carby Biscuits emerged in the pre-Civil War era as an inexpensive addition to meals. When people realized these robust Bread products absorbed the Gravy on their plates better than plain Bread, Biscuits soared in popularity. The Biscuits that we all know and love which is a Buttermilk Biscuit — was born. From celebrating at your favorite restaurant to whipping up a batchof Biscuits at home, there are ways one can pay tribute to this Southern staple.
NATIONAL BUTTERMILK BISCUIT DAY ACTIVITIES
- Go on a Biscuit hunt: Rule #1: You can never have too many Biscuits. In preparation for the holiday, scope out the local restaurant scene a few days beforehand to discover what kind of deals you can find. On May 14th, put your game face on and head over to your local Cracker Barrel to enjoy home-style cooking, complete with mouthwatering buttermilk Biscuits and Gravy or Apple Butter. For dessert, mosey on over to Red Lobster to scarf down Cheddar Biscuits. Then head to Popeyes, Bojangles’, or Church’s Chicken and have Bisscuits. The earlier you start , the more ground you’ll cover.
- Nothing, and I mean nothing, beats homemade Biscuits. If you aren’t sure where to start, there are hundreds of recipes floating across the Internet. If you’re feeling adventurous, make up your own recipe! To start though you will need Buttermilk.
- As wonderful as Buttermilk Biscuits might be on their own, Buttermilk Biscuits can often be made even better when combined with other awesome ingredients. Incliuding Casseroles to Cnnamon Rolls, there are heaps of recipes that can be made using Buttermilk Biscuits as a base.
WHY PEOPLE LOVE NATIONAL BUTTERMILK BISCUIT DAY
- One of the greatest things about Buttermilk Biscuit is versatility. Whether you enjoy Biscuits immersed in Gravy or prefer to order Biscuits with the traditional brunch, Buttermilk Biscuits can be served as an accompinament to any meal. Feeling extra hungry when lunch rolls around? Skip the line at your usual Fast Food Resturant and pop a couple of Biscuits in the microwave.
- Everything tastes good on Biscuits including Molasses to Fruit-flavored Jellies, there isn’t much you can’t put on a Buttermilk Biscuit. Throw Bacon, Egg, and Cheese on top and you’ve got yourself a gourmet breakfast Sandwich. You can even slather Biscuits in Peanut Butter if traditional isn’t your thing. Use National Biscuit Day as an excuse to experiment with your favorite condiments.
- Biscuits are a universal comfort food, no matter which geographical region you grew up in. Of course, if you were raised in a good ol’ Southern home, you probably have a special appreciation for Biscuits.
