Welcome to our series sharing Food Holidays: May 2022: National Barbecue Month and National Beef Month. The perfect meat to cook on the Grill. If you were going to cook out today and use Beef, would it be Steaks or Hamburgers and why?

It’s a beautiful morning and the perfect day to cook out. May is National Barbecue Month? Which stinks because I love cooking Hamburgers and also Pork Chops on the grill, but we packed our grill away. I may have to ask David’s mom if I can borrow here grill before we move and cook dinner for both mine and her family. Would you like to join us for dinner?

Techniques including smoking, roasting, baking, braising and grilling, barbecuing offers endless possibilities to prepare your favorite dish and satisfy life as you kick off summer.

Before you ask no one is really sure when barbecuing was first invented, but barbecuing has evolved over time to become the more social event however its origins are unknown.

NATIONAL BARBECUE MONTH ACTIVITIES

  1. Barbecuing is an all-inclusive activity. Do you need a break? Grab the nearest observer, tag out for a breather and take your turn making a dent in the dinner spread.
  2. Traditional food typically associated with barbecuing is meat, but feel free to experiment with Vegetables and desserts.
  3. Like any other cooking technique, everyone has their own unique style of barbecuing. Allow yourself to be open to new ideas and methods. Then you may stumble upon a new favorite recipe.

  1. Depending on what is getting cooked, barbecuing times can vary a great deal. Slow barbecuing techniques can take as many as 18 hours or longer.
  2. The longest barbecue measured 8,000 meters in Bayambang, Pangasinan, Philippines in 2014.
  3. Barbecue varies by region. The four main styles of Barbeque are named after their place of origin: Memphis, North Carolina, Kansas City, and Texas.
  4. “Barbecue” doesn’t just mean grilled meats. The term barbecue is also used to designate a flavor added to food items including Potato Chips.
  5. “There are few words in the English language that have more variations of spelling than barbecue. Some barbecue restaurants spell barbecue with a French influence, as “barbeque.” Technically speaking however, in English, it is officially spelled “barbecue”.

WHY PEOPLE LOVE NATIONAL BARBECUE MONTH

  1. Unlike inside parties, where you might hear “get out of my kitchen,” barbecuing invites guests to participate. Onlookers gather to show their approval and chefs get the pleasure of cooking with an audience.
  2. Barbecuing flirts with each of the five senses. Enticing hunger through seduction. Thinking of the smell conjures up memories of the whole scene: Sun on your neck, classic rock in your ears, and Pulled Pork on your taste buds.
