Welcome back to our series sharing Food Holidays: June 20th, 2021. Take a look at this morning’s Holiday and let me know if you would like to celebrate it and why.
National Vanilla Milkshake Day
I thought I would share fact to know for preparing for National Milkshake Day and being Fathers Day we should gather our dads and take them to there favorite spot for a Milkshake or make them one at home if you know how.
For David I would need to take him to Braum’s because David loves German Chocolate Milkshakes and there the only place I know that make this Milkshake.
Milkshakes are a staple of American culture and being a descendant from God himself, a Milkshake is defined as a cold drink made of sweet flavoring, including as Fruit or Chocolate, and Ice Cream, which is whisked until the Milkshake is frothy. Milkshakes can be found in there natural habitat of Hamburger joints and Fast-food restaurants.
Did you know Milkshakes were created in the late-1800s. Back then, serving cold Milk was uncommon because there was no way to purify Milk. People would typically have Milk served hot. Which sounds nasty to me. How about you? In 1862, drinks like Eggnog grew in popularity and they were served with Ice.
This holiday is important giving us an excuse to slurp on a drink made from the Gods? It’s a celebration of a historical tradition that has been standing in the United States since the 1800s. Its a way to honor our ancestors, who worked hard to give us the opportunity to appreciate the Vanilla Milkshake.
Did you know there’s a difference between Milkshakes and Malts. A Milkshake is made of blended Ice Cream, Milk and any other add-ins, while a Malt is a special kind of Milkshake that includes Malted Milk Powder.
The malt is added after the shake is mixed. The powder is supposed to enhance the ingredients’ flavors, giving it a sweeter, richer tasting flavor. If people can actually taste the difference, congratulations. Be wary for the malts of the world, it isn’t your time to shine. Today, is for Milkshakes only. Which is fine with me because I prefer a Milkshake. How about you?
If you have a blender, then blend but if a blender is absent it will be a bit more challenging to make a milkshake. But I bet you can figure out how to make a Milkshake without a Blender.
Not having a Blender and making a Milkshakes is what Charlie will be working on in our Homeschool Cooking Class this week. Would you like to join us?
Did you know there are Vanilla Shakes can be healthy. Just research online for a Recipe and create a Healthy Milk Shake for those wanting to watch there weight or might be a Diabetic.
One of my favorite foods to share with a Milkshake is French Fries. The salty and sweet flavors create a beautiful balance. French Fries taste even better when they’re swiped through the Milkshake. But people may give you strange looks, until they try it themselves.
Would you like to know what Charlie puts in his Chocolate Milkshake? Chicken Strips but the Milkshake has to come from Whataburger and no, I do not plan on try this. How about you/
In Fort Worth one of the best places to get Milkshakes is Braum’s Ice Cream store which I wish I could visit this morning because they also have the best Hamburger and Fries. Make that Crinkle Cut Fries.
If you know someone that is Lactose Intolerant, they can still participate? Check out tasty.co for lactose-free shakes! Which is what I will be doing for Charlie and I.
If National Vanilla Milkshake Day is forgotten, one can redeem themselves by drinking a Milkshake the next day, or the day after. Did you know there is a Emergency protocol which requires a purchase of two Milkshakes.
Then you can then if you want to share the second Milkshake or save it for themselves. Nothing wrong with drinking two Milkshakes, is there? Unless your like me and on a diet and can’t even have one.
Five Facts about Vanilla Milkshakes:
- The first known printed reference to a “Milkshake” dates back to 1885 and the Milkshake contained one part Whiskey, ‘for medicinal purposes’. Can you imagine that?
- ‘Shakes’ got their name from being served in bars. If the customer enjoyed the specialty drink, then they would shake hands with the bartender. If not, the bartender wouldn’t get a tip.
- The first diner Milkshakes were made with a mixture of Milk, Malt and a flavoring (Vanilla, Chocolate, etc.). The Malt added an ‘Ice Cream’ texture to the drink.
- Did you know the Electric Blender was invented in 1922 JUST for the making of Milkshakes.
- In parts of New England, a Milkshake is often referred to as a “frappe” (the e is silent.)
