Food Holidays: August 18th, 2021

Good morning, welcome to our series sharing Food Holidays: August 18th, 2021. Take a look at the Holiday being celebrated today and tell me which one you most would like to celebrate and why.

National Ice Cream Pie Day

Ice Cream Pie Day

Did you know Summer just got a little bit cooler, because today is National Ice Cream Pie Day! Any of the Ice Cream flavors can be used to make a Ice Cream Pie. Sometimes the Ice Cream is flavored like regular pies, including a Pumpkin Pie or Lemon Meringue Pie.

A baked pie Crust or Graham Cracker Crust which is my favorite Pie Shell is used to make an Ice Cream Pie, which is filled with softened Ice Cream. I remember these Pies from when I was a child.

Would you like a slice of either of these Pies turned into a Ice Cream Pie because I think I will pass and Charlie said he would to. Although, I could see David eating both Pies an asking for another slice.

How to Observe National Ice Cream Pie Day

Celebrate the day by making an Ice Cream Pie or by visiting a restaurant to have a slice of Ice Cream Pie!

Five facts Ice Cream:

  1. An average dairy Cow can produce enough Milk in her lifetime to make a little over 9,000 gallons of Ice Cream.
  2. A Cow has only 1 stomach with 4 areas where Food is digested: the Rumen, Reticulum, Omasum, and the Abdomen.
  3. The Udder of a Cow can hold between 25-50 lbs. of Milk.
  4. In the U.S., all Ice Cream needs to have a minimum of 10% Milkfat if it is to be labeled “Ice Cream” which includes Custard based or (French Style) Ice Creams.
  5. Did you know Sorbet, has no milk at all!?

Thank you,

Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
