Fire Horse is a book that brings me back into my past as I’ve experienced raw grief, and I had to rebuild myself and my world after my daughter’s passing, an the Author has captured that journey perfectly with Julia and Don. I liked how he shows that peace and contentment is within reach, no matter how bad the storm was.

As the lives of Don and Julia unfold, the Author reveals a profound range of feelings, pulling at the heartstrings and making me stop and think ask myself many questions as I read the story. Don and Julia, story is woven with the intricate dynamics of their son and in-laws, creating a deeply moving and heartbreakingly book that could be a made-for-tv movie.. Even though there is sorrow, hope lingers, urging everyone to believe in a happily-ever after.

About the book:

Exploring themes of love, loss and redemption, Fire Horse is the story of Don and Julia’s quest for peace and meaning in a chaotic and unfair world.

Don is a man adrift. Since his separation from Julia, he spends his days puttering around his isolated cabin and his evenings drinking alone on the porch, staring into the woods of western Michigan.

Julia, meanwhile, is living a life of comfort in London together with her boyfriend, Gerrard. She goes through the motions of life oblivious to the beauty of the City around her.

Their son, Charlie, has been missing for four years. Don and Julia remain trapped – unable to move forward in their lives and unable to forget the past.

Then, new information is revealed concerning Charlie’s disappearance setting Don and Julia on a course for reunion, for which, neither feels fully prepared. As they brace themselves for their imminent meeting, they separately recall the early days of their romance and the choices that brought them to this point in their lives.

Pat Olney is a former executive with three decades of global business experience. He enjoys reading, cycling, travel and creative writing. He currently splits his time between Florida, Michigan, and Ontario as he will do almost anything to escape the snow.

He began writing his debut novel, Fire Horse, while spending time at his cottage in Ontario. The story had been developing in his head for years, and finally during the wee hours he was motivated to write it down. He did this for thirty days straight, much to the chagrin of his beloved wife, Shirley. For the sake of his marriage, he now writes during daylight hours (mostly), and is currently working on his next novel, Baltic Avenue.

Thank you,

Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
