I know if Charlie’s tooth hadn’t been hurting he would have been excited to celebrate February 3rd which is National Carrot Cake Day #NationalCarrotCakeDay. Charlie is the only person I know who actually likes #CarrotCake which surprised me the other day.
David was going to stop at QT for a drink for all of us. Charlie asked if his dad would get us a slice of Cake while there. I asked Charlie is he wanted Chocolate Cake or Banana Nut because like me Charlie likes both of them. Charlie said if they don’t have those can I have Carrot Cake because I like it.
I had honestly forgotten Charlie liked Carrot cake because it isn’t something we purchase of even make. I picked up Charlie the Carrot Cake and before I knew it Charlie had it all gone. Now, I know what kind of #Cake to get Charlie for his #Birthday this year along with Cupcakes for the rest of us. Before you ask I don’t know if David likes Carrot Cake or not.
Join my family and let’s celebrate National Carrot Cake Day, on February 3rd, celebrating a lot of people’s favorite dessert Carrot Cakes. Carrots contain a natural sweetness that’s just perfect for Cake. Many historians believe Carrot Cake originated in the Middle Ages when Sugar and other sweeteners were scarce. (Carrots were used as a substitute.)
The earliest known recipe for Carrot Cake can be found in a French Cookbook published in 1827. While the origins of National Carrot Cake Day are hard to come by, that won’t stop Carrot Cake lovers from indulging in Carrot Cake on February 3rd.
National Carrot Cake Day Activities
- Call the kids down to the kitchen and make baking a Carrot Cake a family affair. Good luck keeping everyone away from the Frosting bowl, though.
- Add Carrots to your garden because they are easy to grow. All you need to do is pick up Carrot Seeds and plant them about one-half inch deep and one to two inches apart. It’ll take up to 12 weeks before Carrots are ready for cake. Just keep an eye out for Rabbits!
- Chances are your local Supermarket or Baker may offer a fine-tasting version of Carrot Cake. Stop by and pick one up for the family to share. Enjoy your Carrot Cake while watching the excellent British animated film “Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit” or “Peter Rabbit“.
Varieties of Carrots
- Chantenay Carrots- are short, fat, and need to be harvested when they reach five to six inches in length.
- Nantes- are so named because they come from the Nantes region in France, which has the perfect weather for growing this variety of Carrots.
- Imperator- is the most commercially available Carrots and they have a higher Sugar content than other Carrots.
- Danvers Carrots are cultivated in Danvers, Massachusetts, they are the classic long, skinny, orange Carrot.
- Ball or Mini shaped Carrots- look like Radishes, the ball or mini only reaches three to four inches in length and is usually served whole.
Why People Love National Carrot Cake Day
- Did you know the old adage is true: Eating Carrots can improve your vision because Carrots contain lots of beta-carotene, which the Liver converts to vitamin A, which then gets converted to rhodopsin in the retina and that gives you better night vision. I don’t know about you but I should be eating Carrots everyday if this is true. What about you?
- Eating Carrots has a host of health benefits and research shows Carrots can reduce the risk of Cancer, Carrots can slow down the aging process, cleanse toxins from our body, and improve the condition of our teeth and gums. Looks like Charlie needs to eat Carrots as well as David.
- Carrots can also improve our skin and help prevent infection.
- Carrots can become a sweet treat especially when topped with Cream Cheese Frosting! Don’t fret if you don’t know how to make a dessert with Carrots because there are many recipes to choose from.
- Make the recipes your own by adding Walnuts or different Spices, like Cinnamon or Nutmeg making a Carrot Cake the perfect dessert!
