I would like to share a new YA book that even adults will enjoy called Emerson Page and Where the Light Leads by Christa Avampato (Author). I received a PDF copy of the book from the Author and Voracious Readers in exchange for this review. Inside this post is my affiliate links. Before I share my thoughts on Emerson Page and Where the Light Leads I wanted to let you know this is the second book in series, and the second book by author Christa Avampato. Emerson Page and Where the Light Leads can be read as a stand alone but I plan on purchasing the first book in the series and reading them in order and sharing them with my family.
Emerson and her pup Friday with a score of friends and her dad embark on a journey that holds your attention on every page and with the Author including a Dog in the story I know this book will capture Charlie and David’s attention. Anyone of any age can enjoy Emerson Page and Where the Light Leads because it is full of adventure, mystery, suspense, bravery, courage, curiosity, creativity, and a true desire to make the world a better place.
I love how the author brings us a story of friendship and love in all its forms. Emerson Page and Where the Light Leads is set in New York City with details that, cover a landmarks, and the Author captures the City’s pulse and vibrancy and it serves as a portal to other magical settings. Being set in New York allowed me to visit a City my daughter went to before she passed making me feel closer to her.
About the book:
Named by LoveReading as “An Indie Book We Love”
- Offical Selection for 2024 New Media Film Festival in Los Angeles
On her fifteenth birthday, Emerson Page finds herself amid chaos in Times Square on New Year’s Eve.
Like her deceased mother, a renowned anthropologist, Emerson is a Starlighter-she has a strong internal light that she can call into her hands and use as a tool. Now, trained to use her gift, she is ready to leave her home in New York City and find the treasure her mother died trying to find-a book written by the muses of Greek mythology that holds the secret to limitless human creativity.
Emerson’s grandmother, who went missing when her mother was a child, re-emerges with the information about the book’s location. The book of the Muses is in the land of the faeries below Dublin, Ireland that’s rooted in Celtic mythology and operates nothing like her own world. Emerson discovers she’s not the only one who knows about the book’s whereabouts. One of her family’s closest friends betrays her and sets out to find and take the book for himself. Now they’re locked in a race to reach it first.
With her two closest friends and her service dog, Friday, who helps her manage her PTSD caused by the tragic loss of her mother seven years earlier, Emerson falls through levels of the underworld below Dublin. They face physical, mental, and emotional struggles on their journey that push every limit they have. They encounter magical beings from Celtic mythology and convince them to help them reach the faeries in the hopes of persuading them to give Emerson the book.
Meet the Author:
Christa Avampato
I combine business, storytelling, and science to build a better world for all beings. I’ve been called the happiest New Yorker, and I try hard to live up to that title every day. I live my life spherically, in many different directions. I’m an award-winning author, freelance journalist, biomimicry scientist, sustainability leader, and product developer. I’m also an environmental, health, and arts advocate, as well as a theater and film producer. The first book in my young adult book series, Emerson Page and Where the Light Enters, was published in November 2017. The second book, Emerson Page and Where the Light Leads, will be published in May 2024.
Inspired by ancient wisdom and modern technology, I’m a proud alumna of the University of Pennsylvania (BA), the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia (MBA), and Arizona State University (Graduate program in Biomimicry). I’m currently working on my Master of Studies in Sustainability Leadership at University of Cambridge.
I’m a proliferator of goodness, opener of doors, friend to animal, and fan of creative work in all its wondrous forms. A recovering multi-tasker, I’m equally at home in front of my Mac, on my yoga mat, traveling with a purpose, or practicing the high art of people watching. I also cut up small bits of paper and put them back together as a collage artist. My rescue soul dog, Phineas, was my constant companion for 13 1/2 beautiful years. He passed away in January 2024 and his spirit is with me always. Someday soon, I know he’ll send me another rescue dog who needs me.
