Cinco de Mayo
Today Charlie and I will be studying and learning about Cinco de Mayo and since I didn’t know to much about it I went and looked it up. And here is what I found out about it. Then I went and found some worksheets and things for us to do. To get us away from the workbooks we have been doing.
And if you are studying Cinco de Mayo in your classrooms come and share with us what you are learning. And if there is special sites you use Please leave me a comment so I can check them out. As this is all new to Charlie and I want to make sure he learns as much as possible.
Cinco de Mayo (pronounced: [ˈsiŋko ðe ˈmaʝo]; Spanish for “May 5th”, or literally, “Five of May”) is a celebration held on May 5. The date is observed to commemorate the Mexican Army‘s unlikely victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, under the leadership of General Ignacio Zaragoza.[1][2] In the United States, Cinco de Mayo is sometimes mistaken to be Mexico’s Independence Day—the most important national holiday in Mexico—which is celebrated on September 16.[1][3]
And if you haven’t found anything to teach your children today about Cinco de Mayo and you would like to have something check out Educents as I found quite a few items on there that Charlie and I will be using. And if you would like to check them out you can here.
